"A Flyover at Woking could be reality in the next 5 years"

How will a flyover at Woking allow two more slots at Waterloo? The throat/platforming at Waterloo won't change, nor will capacity through Wimbeldon etc The article fails to mention that at all. Which is exactly what the original SWML RUS said when it said it wasn't an option for more capacity...

Onboard Catering - Passenger Poll (buffet/shop vs trolley)

Neither, or trolley for longer journeys if the train isnt full. The extra seating space is usually beneficial, certainly more so than the very rare occasions I have used a buffet (single figures in my entire life).

Take part in suicide prevention research commissioned by Network Rail

Completed this and would encourage others to do the same. Very valuable use of time and I hope the research goes well.

    On "Dry" trains....

I've been to the States many times, drunk in about half of the states in the States, and never once been asked for ID. I've been ID'd once in the last 20 or so years. It was for a lottery ticket.

Should my Gold Card have worked the barriers at Bromley South?

I have a similar ticket, AAA either Beckenham (Jn or New) to London. It works the barriers at Victoria, but none of the London Bridge/Waterloo/Charing Cross terminals. I would have thought New Beckenham to Charing Cross was frequent enough to be coded, but apparently not.

    Australian 57-mile runaway

That would be an average speed of 137mph which seems somewhat implausible.

Just had the class 73 thunderbird pass me at Petts Wood on the up fast

    Southeastern - Missing Out Stations

This is Southeastern policy, any delay and the metro services gets slashed, because the Mainline trains have a "higher yield per passenger". There was an incident in Hildenborough a year ago, they (as always) part cancelled all the Sevenoaks stoppers at Orpington, leaving Chelsfield...

    Collecting with the wrong card

Southeastern TVMs allow you to collect with any card, not just when the last four digits match.

Watford Junction to Euston - MG11 - Next steps?

A couple of confusing bits there, if you were sitting down in first class, how did the RPIs advise you to sit down? Were you trying to leave first class when you spotted the RPIs coming? Then, if you believed first class was declassified, why would you try and purchase a first class ticket...

    National Routeing Guide update

I am looking into moving half way between Brockenhurst and Salisbury. Am I right in thinking that as a result of these changes, there is now no annual season ticket that I can get that would allow me to go from London and choose either destination without paying an excess?

Collecting from a TVM without the same card used to pay for ticket

I always pick up from Southeastern with the wrong card, never had a problem. I did it last week after booking with a work credit card (from a different TOC's website) and picking up from Southeastern with my own.

    Prosecution from Arriva Trains Wales

By this logic, all anyone ever has to do is turn up "late" for their train, and only by a ticket if physically forced to do so at the other end. If they are stopped, they just say "I was going to buy a ticket" and pay the minimum, if not stopped they walk away without paying. I'm fairly sure...

    Europa Spezial connections

Thanks Gordon, another question, I have the seat plan up to reserve tickets, it doesn't say which direction of travel, is there a way to tell which seats are facing forwards? Is first class always at one end for example?

    Europa Spezial connections

I'm looking to book a ticket from Hoek van Holland (connecting with Stena Line) to Munich via DB's Europa Spezial offer. Everything seems fine, but I am very wary of the connections. The itinerary has changes at Rotterdam, Amersfoort and Hannover, but these are 8, 3 and 8 minutes...

Air fares to London can be cheaper than rail tickets

Generally, the cost of getting to and from the airport needs to be added in as well, through rail tickets from the final destination to and from the final destination are barely more than the London to Scotland element whereas it can be significantly more if flying. There is also the extra...

    Railcard renewal date issue

If it says valid until the 14th, but nowhere on it when it is valid from, I assume it is entirely fine for you to use it on the 13th.

    The Hunger Games

I'm definitely not younger, but read and enjoyed all 3 books. A bit juvenile in places, and I definitely agree that the last book was not in the same mould and mostly just for closure, but I read all 3 back-to-back and looked forward to picking up the book each time, which is always a good sign...
