Northern vs West Midlands trainee driver salary

I make it clear from the off that if you want to make money with me I'm the wrong instructor. I do my booked Sunday and the odd rest day. Usually turkey money before Xmas and just before my annual leave, and that's it.

    Greatest challenge for a signaller?

As a driver and instructor I tell my trainees that the age old attitude of us v them of driver's and signallers should be consigned to the bin. We're all in this gig together and 99.9% of the time I've found signallers to be spot on. I tell my trainees signallers will help out if asked and are...

Why does Rail recruitment take so long?

D DI myself, just got a trainee with me who's been waiting nearly 3yrs for an instructor another 12 still waiting. Probably be my last one, thinking of jacking it in, difference between instructor and business link driver at our place is £20 something per week. Just not worth it for the stress...

Northern - Driver Training Apprenticeship, Blackpool and Liverpool (07/04/22)

As I've replied in another thread. Northern are very strict on the commute time and won't entertain "promises" to relocate when later on they turn out to be a depot transfer request or welfare move.

To be fair they've always been fine with me,then again I've never given them any reason to be other than. Mottram and Hynes were very good MD's,Mottram in particular. Any subsequent ones I wouldn't know if I fell over them

    Career in late 30s

Get applying, how will you know until you do. As for the medical, look they're looking for railway workers not members of a crack SAS team. Take a look at the staff next time you're on the rails, all shapes and sizes, and they passed their medical. Don't hold back

    Diesel engines running all night

When I did nights I used to shut them down, mainly because I wanted to have a kip and not be woken by the sound of engines running! Set my alarm half an hour before 1st move which was 03.30 then go and start them up as needed so they're nice and warm for the lads and lasses. The OP may have...
