TfW withdrawals (170/175 all gone, now just class 15x to go)

Are all the TfW 150s going straight to scrap? Is there are chance some could cascade elsewhere, say Northern? I guess probably not.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

I'd rather listen to the three S's on an endless loop for the whole duration of my journey than listen to rap music.

Class 195 - Too Many Table Seats?

Is there any scope for using platform 12 for TPE services? Or is this filled with XC services most of the day?

Guardian article on transport minister’s claimed benefits of rail nationalisation

Nationalisation isn't a cure all though. It can slice both ways: better investment vs pruning/cuts. To work effectively it would require MPs of all parties to reach a consensus that a nationalised rail industry has value to the country as a whole and that running at a profit isn't the greatest...

    Trivia: Bleakest Terminal Stations

Still nicer than Lea Road though. 1733207668 At the moment, my vote goes to Huddersfield. Due to the alterations being done the place is full of scaffolding. It looks very dark and grim. I'm sure it'll look great once it's done.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

It just popped into my head as I was typing it. Can't say I've heard it before either! :)

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

Proving that too much ear spam makes people simply tune out. A bet a fair amount of travellers don't listen to any announcements.

Trivia: What are the quirkiest railway stations in Britain?

I personally love the Edwardian decor of Birmingham Moor Street.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

No one listens to them anyway. Like a bad smell, you soon stop noticing.

    Signal berth codes?

    That sounds very logical!

    Signal berth codes?

It's back. Does this actually stand for something?

Trivia: Downsized stations that are shells of their former selves?

Normanton Not so much downsized but Wakefield Kirkgate prior to the refurbishment looked like the perfect example of derelict grandeur.

    Dangerous Station Platforms

If it was down to the driver or guard then gritting time would have to be added onto the dwell time for each stop they were required to grit. It's make for a very slow journey! :)

    Signal berth codes?

I noted yesterday that the loops near Brightside said SNOW, assuming this was due to them being covered in snow. Which then lends the question of why the Deepcar branch stated POO. :) It seems to have been changed since.

Best eras for each lines - and times you don't miss

I miss the clickty-clack of jointed track.

Royal Mail to cease using trains

I thought all mail traffic had stopped decades ago (2003?). I remember reading about all the 325s going into storage. I hadn't realised they'd come back!

Best eras for each lines - and times you don't miss

    I miss slamdoors. I don't miss Pacers.

Are there many railway enthusiasts that have never been on a steam hauled train?

Exactly where I'm at. I'd take a first gen DMU over a steam engine any day. I have been on steam hauled trains in preservation of course. They're certainly interesting, but I have no nostalgia for them.

Stations with "platforms" which could in principle be used but (almost) never are

Hull has plenty of disused platforms used to stable stock. Platform 1 was recently rebuilt and reinstated. The others would require similar.

Should the Midland have been the main route to the North East?

Problem with going through more populated places is that you get more slower stopping trains getting in the way.
