    Why not more tilting stock?

Interesting thread. I wonder how much time would be added to the London to Glasgow schedule if the tilting mechanism was switched off on the Pendolinos and Class 221 Voyergers. Also, would it not be possible to fit the above trains with more modern traction packages to make the acceleration on...

Northern Rail timetables from the 14th of September 2020 until the 12th of December 2020

Anyone who downloaded the Leeds to Carlisle/Morecambe timetable from the Northern Rail website before today (10th September) should disregard it. The timetable which is now available is the correct one as the previous one contained multiple errors on the Leeds to Morecambe section of the timetable.

Northern Rail timetables from the 14th of September 2020 until the 12th of December 2020

Northern have released timetables on their website from the above date. https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/key-worker-timetables While im pleasantly surprised about the amount of trains running,im a little concerned about some routes......Skipton-Lancaster in particular.

Posted on the Friends of the Settle Carlisle line Twitter feed.: https://twitter.com//with_replies?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author Absolutely pathetic. Well done though to The friends of the Settle to Carlisle line for putting pressure on Northern.

Northern rail service increases in July

I'm currently onboard the 1731 service from Morecambe to Skipton,I boarded at Lancaster.Usually this service would be pretty busy. However, theres probably about 15 people onboard. On the other hand, the 1649 Avanti service from Carlisle to Lancaster was extremely busy.......an 11 coach unit too...

Should I have a day rail trip for pleasure on my conscience?

By the sounds of it Howard you need a bit of a break. I'm one of those who is totally dependent on public transport. As I'm writing this,I'm onboard the 2144 from Preston to Leeds. The passengers are mainly daytrippers who have had a day out in Blackpool I suspect. This is my 4th trip out in...

    Transdev Blazefield

If Transdev put more effort into promoting that route,as they do with many other routes, and newer buses, that route should definitely have a half hourly service, and much better morning and late night buses. Denholme has a sizable population and really deserves better.

    Transdev Blazefield

I have to give Transdev credit where it is due. As someone who is totally dependent on public transport, its good to see a transport company activity encouraging people to use it,where if you look at train companies on the other hand, its a very mixed message indeed. I hope I'm not drifting off...

Has anyone made a journey by train in the last few weeks purely for leisure purposes?

I got on an LNER train without a reservation a couple of weeks back when I had my first trip on an Azuma between Newcastle and York. I wasn't challenged by anyone to see if I had a reservation or not.

Has anyone made a journey by train in the last few weeks purely for leisure purposes?

I've made about 3 leisure journeys in the past 3 weeks. I've done a circular tour of the Cumbrian coast twice, and two weeks ago I bought a North East round robin ticket. All my journeys started from Bradford. This Friday I will be getting a North Country rover.

Northern rail service increases in July

I boarded the 1049 Leeds to Carlisle service at Bingley yesterday. It was a 3 car 158 and it was very quiet. Crossing Ribblehead Viaduct,I couldn't help but notice the number of cars parked on the road leading to Hawes, there were lots of them. Were some of those car owners regular travellers on...

DfT advise TOCs that full timetable is to be restored on 6 July

I was thinking that myself. I used the Leeds to Morecambe services quite regularly until the outbreak of Covid. I noted that they seemed to have a healthy amount of passengers. The only train which I travelled on which was always empty was the 2000 from Skipton! As for the Settle to...

DfT advise TOCs that full timetable is to be restored on 6 July

I tried editing my previous reply! An hourly service would have been a start but 2 hourly is absolutely ridiculous. I would love to know just what percentage Northern are operating their services at after the 6th of July compared to other TOCs.

DfT advise TOCs that full timetable is to be restored on 6 July

Even though I dont live over that way,ive just had a look at the timetable for the Scarborough to Hull and what an absolute farce it is. So basically the Basically the Bridlington to Hull section has roughly 25% of the services running compared to pre lockdown?

DfT advise TOCs that full timetable is to be restored on 6 July

Pretty disappointed with the Leeds to Carlisle/Morecambe timetable. Apart from an early morning Ribblehead to Leeds service, and the extension of a couple of Skipton to Lancaster services to Morecambe,Not much has changed.

TSSA Threaten National Rail Strike Over Social Distancing Fears

I really don't see how any railway union is in a position to strike. I suspect if one was to occur, the damage would be irreversible.
