Unable to buy correct ticket from Reading to Zone 2 station online

It is not possible for journey planner-based systems to sell these since the electronic route restriction is set up to say that Ealing Common or West Acton must feature in the journey itinerary, yet these are London Underground stations and so don't feature in the timetable data that journey...

2025 fares from 2 March 2025 now in journey planners

I did not know the old 4-week rule was applying to the quote date this year. Will update.

London Underground Zone 1 --> Cambridge can no longer be booked

Both also reasonable suggestions, from the point of view of how TOCs or RDG might have better handled the situation. My post was coming more from the point of view of a former journey planner developer - since journey planners are not formally subject to accreditation and there are many grey...

London Underground Zone 1 --> Cambridge can no longer be booked

I'm assuming this is correct as the same information has been posted by two sources, both of whom I'd consider reliable. I'm grateful for the clarification - to me it does not seem reasonable behaviour; my interpretation (which I implemented when programming some of this stuff in the FastJP...

The train fares increasing in March instead of January in the last few years.

Very interesting; thanks. So it's not such an immovable thing as we were supposing!

The train fares increasing in March instead of January in the last few years.

I think you may have misremembered; certainly since I have been interested in UK rail fares (around 15 years) it was traditionally always on the 2nd of January,

How does ScotRail's "Friends Fare" actually work?

The price covers all passengers. I tried searching at a few different times and it does not look like Scotrail have set any availability for the fare, and since it's an advance it maybe means it is not purchasable in reality.

GWR rail replacement bus for last train of the night didn't turn up, station locked behind us, what should have happened?

Looks like it would have been a much better decision to change at Reading, once it was clear you were going to miss the connection at Didcot. But hindsight is wonderful.

Annual Gold Card - Where... to buy?

I thought it was clear from the discussion above, but the concept of a child Gold Card holder is not supposed to exist and therefore is not catered for anywhere.

Annual Gold Card - Where... to buy?

I mean, a CHAGC-discounted ticket can be bought for anywhere in the Gold Card area - but the intention is that the child should always be accompanied by an adult Gold Card holder. Although as pointed out above, there may be some loopholes in the terms & conditions in this regard. The reason why...

Annual Gold Card - Where... to buy?

That is a bookable option because the (adult) Gold Card holder can book a ticket for a child to accompany them when travelling on the route covered by their Gold Card, i.e. when they don't need to book a ticket for themselves. Normally it is not permitted for a a ticket with the CHAGC (child...

London Paddington Elizabeth Line gateline ticket barriers.

I would hazard a guess the problem is with the "odd" Travelcard types that SWR use, since they have different CAPRI codes from the standard ODT (Off-Peak Day Travelcard) ticket type, where the code is BDY as CyrusWuff mentioned above. Sunday Out Travelcard is ticket type SUT, CAPRI code HYT...

Veterans Railcard as part of a group booking

Fair point, in retrospect it was an unreasonable aspersion. :) My thinking was just that it allows you to add two adults to a Veterans Railcard with no warning that they must both be named on the card. But the need for a warning is really RDG's problem with its seeming insistence on making sure...

Veterans Railcard as part of a group booking

Veteran's Railcards are quite tricky for websites to handle; TrainSplit also gets it wrong. For a complicated passenger group like this it may be advisable to use a WebTIS-based site like GWR (see screenshot) which allows you to specify exactly which passengers are allocated to each railcard.

Introducing LTfares.com (BR Fares for Oyster)

It was definitely broken before; I just power-cycled the server and started freeing up some disk space

Introducing LTfares.com (BR Fares for Oyster)

Thanks for pointing that out - looks like it's been down since Monday. Disk was full. I must get some automatic log rotation working on there...

    Return split ticketing

In the early days of developing the FastJP journey planner (used by TrainSplit) - almost 10 years ago - we really wanted to be able to offer this option (i.e. use the return portion of a return for a single journey, discarding the outward portion). In practice it proved impossible to do reliably...

Unclaimed bag unloaded, person arrives too late

I also thought that sounded strange - could it be that the train had terminated at Reading from a previous journey, the passenger owning the bag had boarded early and the train manager was not sure if it had maybe been forgotten by an arriving passenger?

    Purchasing Tickets Midnight and After

If you want to be legally watertight, when buying a ticket for travel after midnight (but before 04:30) with a railcard where the terms & conditions say it's not valid before a certain time (e.g. Network Railcard), you should ask for it to be dated the day before. (I have no idea if this is even...
