Transpennine Express on the West Coast

Back to the shortage of TPE trains Here's 397008 and one other routing ECS from Longsight to Doncaster West Yard via Crewe, then north along the WCML, across to Edinburgh and then south via the ECML to Doncaster West Yard today...

Stockport renamed "Scottport" for a day

As far as the general public is concerned, I'm not sure the railway is held in a position of respect at all, especially after the last few years of industrial disputes and operational disasters like some of the timetable changes.

    Storm Eowyn Disruption - 24/1/25

Wind at Exeter Airport has reported the highest gust being around 25mph in the last couple of hours and the wind is from the SW. As the line at Dawlish runs NE-SW, problems at Dawlish happen when the high winds are from the east.

Unusual Avanti working at Cheddington today

Thanks for the news of the successful evacuation warwickshire and Tilting007 I assumed something like that, or the press + social media would have been all over it and no doubt someone would have started a thread on here.

Unusual Avanti working at Cheddington today

What happened to the passengers on this? Did it manage to stop in the platform? Or did they have to evacuate?

Duff Passenger Information at Manchester Piccadilly 27/12

I did and was checking RTT when the announcement about the train being between Deansgate and Oxford Rd was made. It was about 5 minutes before the train came in. I have however seen some Norwich trains starting at Piccadilly when there is disruption, so p8 was quite possible.

Duff Passenger Information at Manchester Piccadilly 27/12

I rolled up to Manchester Piccadilly last night to get back to Cheadle Hulme about 1850. The next 3 Northern trains were cancelled with the next one at 2006. Quelle surprise! So plan B into operation - next train to Stockport and catch a bus. The next train was the delayed 1843 Norwich , due...

A new "tap" (bar) for Oxford Road station!

The Tap needs to be outside the barriers to maximise footfall. Anyway it never rains in Manchester... It's an old cafe, the rest of the hut is still a bike shed for rail workers. They had some problems getting some of the required permissions , but were anxious to open before...

    Northern - 24 December - "Expect disruption"

There's a clue in there in that this refers to known disruption due to engineering works. However, as others have pointed out, what they can still run outside of the engineering work will no doubt be subject to 'short notice changes to the timetable', where trains mysteriously disappear...

Northern Rail train broke down in Totley Tunnel

Northern Rail train broke down in Totley Tunnel

Looks like there are still problems in the area especially on Manchester bound services. The signal berth approaching the tunnel had code ES20 on Traksy a short while ago; does that mean emergency speed restriction of 20mph perhaps? Manchester bound trains have been held at Sheffield for...

    Northern emergency timetable

I suspect he (and the other Mayors) did have something to do with it, as the meeting was a week or so before the announcement. It was good fun to watch the Northern management try to squirm out of it, citing all sorts of issues. He was adamant that this must be introduced, as their service was...

    Northern emergency timetable

When I looked on Saturday night, the buses were showing on National Rail Enquiries, at least on the Manchester - Crewe route. Andy Burnham has been very vociferous about the temporary timetable and the need to run RRBs and gave Northern senior management a massive rollocking at the TfN...

    Northern emergency timetable

The emergency timetable on Sundays doesn't come in until NEXT Sunday. Yet the Manchester - Stockport - Crewe service has been binned completely for tomorrow -15th. No RRBs as far as I can see. Absolutely shambolic. What with the current toxic relations and the Manchester derby, I suppose this...

    Greek Street bridge replacement Stockport

Well there should be plenty of available paths into Piccadilly! AFAI understand it the diversion routes have yet to be publicised, but when they are it will be for 12 months!

Thanks for the link. Fascinating stuff to the layman

    Greek Street bridge replacement Stockport

Can't seem to find this on the NR website. Could you provide a link please? Meanwhile with Greek Street roundabout shut for 12 months from Spring 2025 and road and bus diversions not yet finalised, I forsee all sorts of traffic jams around the town, which any RRBs will get stuck in, not to...
