Article - Train leasing companies’ profits investigated by regulator. But should the government “buy out” the ROSCO’s?

The pseudo DfT contracts for IEPs and the Thameslink fleet are far more lucrative than the ROSCOs and have decades to run. Most of the rosco leases are now co terminus with the end of the operating contract so going to be interesting to see what DfT does with those as they move the under GBR...

Service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Indeed AI is totally predicated on the ability to process vast amounts of data in microseconds so its totally possible to run 100's of permutations to come up with the best recovery plan in seconds. What it needs though is training to filter out sensible solutions that are deliverable. Still...

    Formula 1

Albon had been placed fourth due to a time penalty on Antonelli but that was reversed on appeal but none the less a good result for Williams. Lets hope the wild ride continues and plenty of drivers remain in the mix.

    Southeastern metro fleet replacement/improvement

There a standard Electrostar bodyshell to which all other variants have a toilet but agree you would have to forgo space and rehash the interior but its not the first train class thats had that done to it.

HS2 Six Monthly Report Dec 24

Labour have just largely supported what Torys had already decided so no real reason for the delay but its somewhat irrelevant what its says now as the project is too far gone to change anything.

New DfT rail usage figures, big increase

Is there the drive to comply with it now like there was pre covid? On my route people regularly stand for more than 20mins but for many thats a choice rather than squash in between two people so of course it would never be classified as PIXC.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Thanks for posting update. I like the comment that demolition of the box was expected to be two days! If that was from TRU no wonder the project is going to take so long.

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

Currently UK hasn't decided whether its sticking with Trump or going all in with the EU so we are sitting on the fence. In the short term without US there is no way Europe can protect Ukraine so its right that we keep on trying to get the US back onside.

Class 701 SWR introduction delays: what should happen now?

DfT are on the rack with Treasury to get opex costs down so you would have thought not paying for two fleets would be low hanging fruit! Leaving them at Marchwood i would suggest isn't the best location. That in itself is disgraceful they've had years to get the lighting sorted. We banged...
