    1A79 Class 43 powercar on fire 28/02/25

There is an access point down to Riverside Drive, but only to/from the former southbound platform. Streetview link showing the access: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4X6DR4H5anoZqPoaA

    1A79 Class 43 powercar on fire 28/02/25

Oh yes, absolutely - I was adding further detail, not contradicting! There is a track access at the end of the bridge, from/into a Tesco car park of all places. But while it's a short distance in railway terms, it would have been very difficult for passengers. So train-to-track-to-train was a...

    1A79 Class 43 powercar on fire 28/02/25

The Dundee Courier has posted a video showing the evacuation was to track, with passengers walking to a waiting Class 170: https://content.jwplatform.com/previews/36EaAsvA (Link is to a video showing passengers leaving the HST and walking back to a waiting Class 170)

The Evening Telegraph Facebook page is reporting that passengers are still on board (as of 35 minutes ago), having been moved to the rear coaches. https://fb.watch/y1C-C8Qxyw/

    1A79 Class 43 powercar on fire 28/02/25

Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but a ScotRail power car caught fire today as it was leaving the Tay Bridge on approach to Dundee. https://x.com/brackens1/status/1895429949227663648?s=46&t=ok__OkqZ7gTBweIuhUaACA (X/Twitter post with a photo showing flames coming out of the...

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Timetables for the 74 family of services have found their way onto bustimes. It seems the 74/A/C are to compete with the 5 (not 5A) on the Craigiebank-City Centre corridor by turndown down Greendykes...

    Caledonian Sleeper

The Dundee lounge used to be a normal waiting room, next to the bay platforms. But it was a drab, soulless place* that was hardly ever used. However, if they can return it to use as a waiting room in its refurbished state, I suspect it might get more patronage, especially from those travelling...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I guess it's no coincidence that Dundee, Perth and Leuchars are the only intermediate lounges, with all others being at termini. I would imagine departure and arrival times at those locations are such that people are less willing to arrive (super) early when departing, and prefer to just leave...

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Attitude, much? I was reliably informed that it had “broken down” and went that way for a walk after work to see if it was still there. The presence of a McConechys van doesn’t contradict that - not least because the McConechys branch of Halfords does more than just tyres.

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Unfortunately, it’s currently sitting broken down on Craigie Drive.

    Storm Eowyn Disruption - 24/1/25

Why is a service from Kings Cross to Inverness going anywhere near Penrhiwceiber?

    Stagecoach East Scotland

I have vague recollections of a 40, with various letters including “E” (which I assume was “evening” and possibly subsidised?). It took an unusual route, coming along Dundee Road then cutting up onto Craigie Avenue (towards Arbroath Road) at the Stannergate Roundabout. The X5 did go via East...

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Are we now on a third iteration of a 74? The first being the one you mention, and the second being a (relatively) short-lived service from Barnhill to Dundee University (then Ninewells) introduced in 2007. That was a time when Stagecoach, having not long taken over, tried to introduce some...

    No Trains on Boxing Day

I don’t want to be veer to far into what days are and aren’t bank holidays, but the Government thinks that: 1) Boxing Day 2025 is a bank Holiday in Scotland 2) Good Friday and Christmas Day are Bank Holidays everywhere. https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays

    No Trains on Boxing Day

Which is still a vast improvement on previous years when there was nothing north of the central belt. Although the “Boxing Day railway snub” headlines in local press have now just gone further north to Aberdeen.

    TOC football charters

I think “non-stop” in this context meant “no intermediate passenger stops”. As well as crew changes, I’d imagine finding a non-stop path between Inverness and Perth would be something of a challenge.

    TOC football charters

When the 2023 Scottish Cup Final (Celtic v Inverness) was moved to a 5.30pm kick-off, it was quickly realised there would be no service to get fans back to Inverness after full time. ScotRail laid on an “Inverness Express” special, running non-stop to and from Glasgow Queen Street for £70.60...

Direct Rail Service loco at Dunkeld & Birnam?

It's right next to the A9 and the car park access road seems wide enough. Maybe something to be done overnight with a closure of the A9 (local diversion through Birnham) to help with manoeuvring.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Just over an hour late into Edinburgh, 50 minutes late leaving, but more than made it up for an on-time arrival into Euston. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C05097/2024-07-05/detailed#allox_id=0

    ScotRail "Request to Stop" Ad

The photo in the original post is a still from a video. The attached is a screenshot of the same video at the point the train is fully stopped. It’s barely moved any further forward, if at all.
