TfW withdrawals (170/175 all gone, now just class 15x to go)

A 150 is a 150 surely? The TfW 150s are comparable to the GWR 150s for the 2+2 seating layout. The absolute worst must surely be the original cramped 1980s 3+2 seating on the Northern 150/2s.

Bridge problem cardiff Central 20/4/25 route blocked Newport Cardiff

Since the Cardiff Area Signalling Renewal (CASR) project that completed in 2017, Queen St to Central has been bi-directional and Valley lines trains can depart or arrive Central to Queen St from platforms 4, 6, 7 or 8 at Central, although P4 at Central is rarely used for movements to/from Queen St.

Bridge problem cardiff Central 20/4/25 route blocked Newport Cardiff

As I said on page 1, it was in August 2012 due to a landslip and the closure back then was for 2 weeks

Bridge problem cardiff Central 20/4/25 route blocked Newport Cardiff

Penarth is served by such frequent buses, the 92/93/94 run every 10 minutes between the bus interchange and Penarth town centre, it's easy for TfW to junk Penarth services without worrying about leaving people stranded. That's if ticket acceptance is agreed obviously.

Bridge problem cardiff Central 20/4/25 route blocked Newport Cardiff

TfW journey check states that disruption to Valley Lines is expected until Sunday. What's not mentioned on Journeycheck is that the service to Barry Island has also been thinned out and Penarth services dropped from 4tph to just 1tph.

Bridge problem cardiff Central 20/4/25 route blocked Newport Cardiff

The last time the bridge between Queen St and Central was closed for an extended period was due to a landslip and it was shut for 2 weeks, back in 2012. According to this article, back then Arriva managed to turnaround Rhymney & Coryton trains at Queen St...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Well with the 398s being so heavily delayed, possibly with full introduction not until December 2026, Treherbert / Aberdare / Merthyr Tydfil passengers are going to have a lot of time to get used to 756s before they get taken away......

TfW withdrawals (170/175 all gone, now just class 15x to go)

Does anyone have numbers on how many 150s TfW have left now, and how many they'll have by the end of this year? With the full introduction of 398s on the Valleys not due until late next year, some 150s will need to be kept going for up to another 21 months.

TfW withdrawals (170/175 all gone, now just class 15x to go)

So basically, the 153s are now going go be a micro fleet for TfW, confined just to Heart of Wales services? Meanwhile 150s cover elsewhere until they are sent for scrap.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Yes it looks like diagrams are alternating between Bridgend and Barry which means only 150s can be used on most Caerphilly - Barry diagrams for the next 6 weeks. 1744911289 Lines through Pontypridd have been almost exclusively 4 car 756s or 231s all day today, with just 1 diagram being a 150. So...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Up until a few weeks ago, all except for one Barry Island diagram was a 231 on most days. Looking at RTT from the last few days, it's gone back to at least half of those diagrams now being 150s.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

And as a result the 150s have been put on the Caerphilly - Barry / Bridgend services, not even running doubled up. Obviously an instruction has gone out to prioritise the TAM lines for Flirts now.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Is there going to be a 'big bang' changeover at the timetable change next month, that's going to see 150s almost eliminated on the Valleys and to Barry / Penarth, apart from Rhymney - Bridgend? Because looking at RTT today, it seems hard to believe. Despite Caerphilly to Rhymney being shut...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

The 150s withdrawal you mean? Im not sure what else TfW can do. The 150s are life expired and no one is willing to pay for their upcoming C6 overhauls.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Presumably if this happens once all the 150s are gone, all services will be cancelled.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Not stopped at all, there's just been several delays in the switch on of the wires south of Caerphilly, resulting in delays of the 756s going into service

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

The reason 231s and 756s have not yet gone any further west than Barry is because mainline crews that staff VoG services are not trained on them, with no date currently when this training will start. Nothing to do with infrastructure on the CVL or battery range. Hopefully, as @craigybagel has...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Are all 11 of the 231s in service on the Rhymney/Bargoed to Barry Island diagrams most days? Looking at RTT, there always seems to be at least 1 Barry Island diagram that is still a 150 and of course Rhymney to Bridgend will still be 150s for the foreseeable future.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

The wires won't be live under low bridges, those will be neutral permanently earthed sections, this has saved TfW the considerable cost and disruption of raising the many low bridges on the network.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

That's good to know, most of my posts are dripping in sarcasm lately so don't take them literally, but in all seriousness, I fully understand these things take time and everywhere will get the benefits eventually.
