Solar railway - bad idea or bad idea?

If they get down to 20-30 quid then there's an argument for slinging them on vertical walls, where they can be put up by an enthusiastic amateur with a stepladder

    Supermarkets discussion

That's pretty rare these days. I almost never see Tesco go above 50% off, and if they do then it's because they have a shelf full. Certainly Tesco do reduce early and lightly, but a combination of that and being willing to see the leftovers go to charity mean that they don't need to do really...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

I'd say I've had multiple mains more often than not on non-dine trains. It seems to help to be sitting on your own, being friendly and genuinely quite excited about the food.

Solar railway - bad idea or bad idea?

Reading down the article, it's an extremely test installation, designed to assess whether the panels will get too dirty, broken or in-the-way. I suspect the people commissioning the test fully expect it to fail, but want some evidence to point to whenever some bright spark re-invents the idea...

It looks like you have desktop mode turned on. Certainly that's the only way I can get the search bar that small

    Ember: Electric coach service

Agreed. They're a small operation in global terms, but iirc they've raised a fair amount of speculative venture capital. The aim of those investors will be to go big or go home - getting a small payout by selling out to a conventional bus company won't have any appeal at all.

I'll add it to the list. From memory Chester was drawn from bad and possibly quite outdated pictures of the signalbox, so it wouldn't be hugely surprising if there were errors

My bad. I've corrected the URL I provided above

Ahh, got you. I accidentally made messaging to non-subscribers on the new site worse in the last update, otherwise it would likely have been a bit more obvious. That could account for why there's been a bit of a drop-off in new subscribers since I released the update  . Hopefully I can...

On the new site that would be the case. Could you send a screenshot of the Stripe page to info@ ? I thought it just went through the normal subscription flow for former subscribers so I've never seen what it looks like

    Traksy Website

It's just changed from popups to individual pages in the new app. In practice on the new site it's still a single-page app, but the URL neatly reflects the page which is on display, rather than having cryptic references to all the pages and maps which are currently open...

Cut-price train operator Lumo replacing 'tired' seat upholstery after just three years

The padding is holding up okay, which is the important thing. As Transpennine have also found though, plain cloth isn't really up to the job as a covering.

If you tick "remember me" on the login screen it *should* remember you pretty well for up to 90 days. What I should probably do is default that box to ticked. it does currently forget you every time the server gets restarted though, which is every few weeks. again I know how to fix that and it...

There are definitely some issues with login. Every time you refresh the page it has to go back and forth a couple of times to make sure you're still the same person. I was going to sort that last week but I got focused on making it switch between maps faster, and I ran out of time. Hopefully I...

    Signal berth codes?

I'd be surprised if they've got round to doing that already, but quite possible I guess.

Current thinking is that we won't just switch the whole website over to the beta version. We might have a simpler site with more static pages and less bells and whistles for the free version, and a bit more of an "advanced" app-style site for subscribers. Partly this is to encourage people to...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

https://indd.adobe.com/view/c0ae8136-c8ba-4d55-863b-0ddafadb4b3b is the page you eventually get to if you follow the series of complex actions and accessibility traps. Even then its a naff online document viewer with no way to view it as a normal web page or PDF. Why the NR consultation people...

Looks a bit sad and saggy already, but certainly less actively in the way

    Restarting HS2a

It's the middle of a pretty normal working week. Parliament is in recess, as they are for a pretty large proportion of the year, but work goes on. It was indicated in the King's Speech that this bill was going to be repurposed for NPR, and this will be part of the process. If they want to...

    Haymarket to Dalmeny electrification

That would be my guess for the end of the next timetable. I wouldn't draw any conclusions about diversions from that
