    Delay Repay claims rejected

I've got a phone number for them via X, psyching myself up to call them. Probably tomorrow, don't like to mess up their Sunday!

    Aberdeen to Penzance

We stayed there too. Our arrival was very delayed so I phoned the hotel and they left our key in a box in the wall of the hotel, which was a great help as otherwise we wouldn't have been able to get in once the bar staff had gone home. Nice room too, basic but comfortable. We liked it so much...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

Yes, they ask how many connections your journey comprised, and you fill in the (timetabled not actual) departure and arrival times for each leg.

    Delay Repay claims rejected

Sorry I seem to have caused some confusion - I should have said that the second train BHM-WGN was Avanti. They were delayed too but as stated I still had 13 minutes to make the connection to Wallgate. Had Northern not cancelled their 17:07 I wouldn't have a claim to fight. 1745698236 Yes my...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

But the WMT delay didn't cause a missed connection. If they look at the ticket times it's obvious that whereas I should have had 58 minutes to connect at New Street I actually "only" had 30 minutes. Given the minimum for BHM is 12 minutes they can't be held responsible for my eventually late...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

Here's a funny one, buck passing at its finest. 16th April the 12:40 Hereford to New Street departed 20 late and arrived at BHM 14:37, however I had a long connection onto the 15:07 at New Street which I made easily, not least because it too was 15 late departing, although I'd have made it...

Saving money by using non-obvious routes - is this legally / morally OK?

Similarly, if I make a journey by an indirect route and buy separate Advances for each leg, if one of the trains is cancelled or delayed resulting in reaching my first destination late, am I entitled to (a) take the next train by the same operator for the ticket I hold, and/or (b) claim delay...

    Long Layovers on Advance Tickets

On a similar note (although perhaps a new thread should be started?), I was bemused today to have to get the 09:41 from Morecambe to Lancaster (10 minute journey) and then wait over an hour for the 10:57 to New Street, despite there being a 10:32 from Morecambe which would have allowed 15...

Travelodge is okay if you don't expect the Ritz. They are known for their very comfortable beds, and I've never had a bad one yet. You don't get any frills, just a small kettle and cups, teabags etc., which you can ask for replenishments of if they haven't got a supply in reception to help...

Cross Country (XC) First Class service

No trolley at all when we were in 1st from Basingstoke to New Street two Fridays ago. Hardly surprising as there's no way a trolley could have got through the crush loading, so they wouldn't have sold anything to make up for what they gave away in 1st. Apparently there was a trolley joining at...

The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

... Whatever "be kind" means. It's pretty nebulous as a general concept to most people. In this context it's totally meaningless. Offer the guard a sweet? Smile at a stranger? Give a small child a fiver?

Cross Country treating customers as sardines

Well yesterday was fun, not. Returning from the Isle of Wight, on XC from Basingstoke to Birmingham NS. Originally booked in Standard, however on impulse we decided on Tuesday to hang the expense and book 1st Class, having enjoyed trolley offerings on our way down on the Tuesday including some...

Very envious, the Midland has been on our bucket list for years, but somehow it always seems a couple of noughts too expensive. However the way the Travelodge is going with soaring prices it probably means the Midland will become a serious contender at some future point. I wonder if the sea...

They are quite similar to Premier Inns but without the hairdryers! Good luck finding dates when the prices aren't too eye-watering.

    TPE seat reservation displays

Thanks both. So I could have remained in it without fear of being turfed out. I'll know for next time.

    TPE seat reservation displays

I boarded a Glasgow to Liverpool TPE today at Lancaster, and was looking for an unreserved seat (or preferably a pair, as nobody likes sitting next to strangers these days!). I know coach D is unreserved but as I'd boarded in C, it being the nearest door to where I was waiting on the platform, I...

I’d give Perth a miss, very run down and uninspiring nowadays. If you must go to Perth avoid the hotel across the car park from the station. I stayed there once and my room was dirty, bottle tops on the floor and even the toilet hadn’t been cleaned… or flushed . Stirling is worth a visit...

    Great experience at Basingstoke (22/03)

Aww bless her. Hope it's the first of many fun days exploring the railways.

Any more fares increases expected this year?

I presume we'd get a bit of notice if they did decide to chuck an increase in at an unusual time of the year. The tickets I need are for GWR so just have to hope for the best.
