Football specials Nottingham to St. Pancras Sunday 27/04/2025

In my experience of following my team away, car was generally a solid option until it came to going to London. For London aways, many would ditch the car and take the train entirely, or drive to the edge of London and then get the train/tube. You'd think for a big game that more may ditch the...

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

Similarly, it's not just Leeds that is served but Shipley (for Bradford), Bingley, Keighley, Skipton and Settle too. The WCML North is no different to the S&C in that there is a massive population gap on it either side of Carlisle. Of course, if you liked you could always extend it back to...

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

That nicely illustrates the power of a decent train service. Two similar sized places, one has a decent train service to Glasgow, the other doesn’t. If there was a reasonable Glasgow-Leeds direct service, you’d see a number closer to 30,000 than 8,000. From my observations of my semi-regular...

Potential future uses for class 68 & Mk5 sets?

Night Riviera conversion? Or GBRF might take them for spot hire with their 57/3's, less likely is that DRS do the same with their 68's?

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

    1) What’s the point if the trains stop at a station every few minutes? Would clapped-out 158’s be able to reach such speeds between calls? And even then, as recently stated, unless you can save enough time to reach the path ahead at Skipton, you can’t benefit from the saving on an end-to-end...

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

That’s not necessarily the case. But that’s an ideological standpoint, that’s been covered a multitude of times on here before, so probably a conversation not worth repeating. 1745768691 Exactly the sort of journey time improvement that may attract new customers to rail. Your idea for...

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

It’s not taking from the taxpayer, it’s saving the taxpayer money by meaning the DFT can continue to avoid investing in XC and meanwhile growing the overall railway. XC is brand-damaging and can’t cope.

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

Birmingham to Sheffield is a very busy corridor that needs more than 1tph or 4 carriages per hour (sometimes)! I can understand the criticism of this proposed train running North of York, but between Reading and York at least, any additional capacity would be a great help!

Green Signals Podcast: Interview with Matt Rice - Chief Operating Officer of Northern

While I agree with the sentiment of the statement, it’s not unique to Northern; TfW are in an even worse position for this, but they do of course have a stronger political situation.

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

GC have ordered IET’s and have an option to order more. Is there any evidence they would use 180’s over an add on order of IET’s?

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

So XC couldn’t have used OA previous to now?

Grand Central apply for Newcastle - Brighton direct

Anything providing additional capacity on the XC core should be welcomed in my opinion. Slightly ironic that only now are Arriva finally doing something to address this issue…

    1st gen DMU movement

It’s unserviceable and quite possibly ‘too far gone’ to get back into service.

    1st gen DMU movement

My money would be on the NYMR, as even us lot on here identified a need for one on the relevant thread and it is fairly local to York.

Very expensive, I fear. Particularly resolving the Sunday issue.

True, passengers who are anxious about safety can of course sit in the carriage that they observe the guard to be operating from*. *on trains where a guard exists of course.

    2025 Models

My current Bachmann EWS 66 is a fantastic model, although the lighting is a slight disappointment. The sound on the current 66 is fine too. So I won't be looking to upgrade there. I think Bachmann did need to improve their sound, so I'm glad they've done it, but this is an odd model to...
