Why are 350/2s being replaced with 730s?

All of the /2 are going off-lease and none retained. All planned to be gone by Dec 25.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

ASDO will be used, just as it’s already in use with 730s.

Different Guard Depot, Route and Traction cards

Woking used to have both when I was there - one main link for each plus accommodated sub-links as required. Route knowledge was trained to be the same, I think Portsmouth was required for Commercial but we ended up training non-Commercial down there anyway to ensure coverage.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

I have corrected my post - right day, wrong month written half asleep it seems! 2nd Feb is the correct launch date. I think based on recent TfL experience it’ll be a quiet launch with full PR and comms coming after.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

It has been negative, and substantially so. There will be a recovery fare increase for next few FSR to return the business case to net neutral. Key lesson learnt for industry is that there must be the convenience factor that drives volume to compensate for lower yields at same time. We all said...

    Support for English TOCs 23/24

SE would be in same position as SW etc if it wasn’t for HS1, which saddles what would be a ‘profitable’ network with enormous infrastructure recovery charges.

NR RST Online Leisure Card - Travelling to from Heathrow T5

If you’re using a mobile version, switch to desktop, where you can just select the ticket on the Mixing Deck rather than an itinerary. Unsure what it is about Heathrow Rail that causes RST online to throw up an error, but that workaround works for me.

Farringdon Station | Station Manager's Office Location

It’s on the left hand side as you look at the ticket office windows from the public concourse area, on the Thameslink (not LU) side. Ask the ticket office clerk rather than the barrier staff.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Only 1 Chase diagram tomorrow, starts with 0650 from Rugeley. 2 new diagrams onto the Wolves - Walsall route.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Yes, 3x 730/0s into traffic tomorrow in the West Midlands. 236 I do not think is off lease yet - there are 2x 350/2s requiring substantial repairs of which 236 is one. That will come back to active service to release the other unit to Wolverton, which will go off lease at that time. 9 in total...

    Services to Northampton

It could be done and was considered. However the main connections for overall demand maximisation to prioritise were the Manchester, Birmingham connectivity train and the TV. The first two are catered for in the current structure, the TV Up works and the Down will fixed with 730/2 intro. The...

This time next week. Plus first diagram on the Rugeley - International as well.

    Historial plane/flight allocations?

Flightera is a good shout for most, some blackspots by airline but for scheduled flights pretty reliable. FlightAware is a fallback if you really need the reg, but £££.

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

Correct. Available from 22nd, press launch on 23rd, for all other Phase 1 (?) TOCs.

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Current fleet stabling plan is a bit compromised, sorted for December. Additional Worcs is one unit, so final state with Camp Hill is 11/14 4 cars and 4/6 2 cars. Plenty to go round.

    Stopper allowed out first

Agreed. Generally regulation at Shrewsbury is good, there is a regulation statement in place, the odd misjudgement is made. Should be better from June anyway with the departures to Birmingham more spread out.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

MR is correct. I would be very surprised to see any journey time reductions, particularly on the Cov corridor end, though you may get the odd 30s up towards Rugeley. Any tidying up will be done post full introduction, May 25 at the earliest I would guess.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

The correct plans for utilisation have been posted previously, including Rugeley - Intl being 730/0, and Potteries being 350.

Why don't East Midlands Trains stop at St Albans?

Pretty much as you say. You had to make very sizeable time savings to make significant inroads to the Nottingham market (and vv slow down for losses) and that just wasn’t possible. As someone said upthread it should be accepted rail can’t be the best option for all journey permutations -...

Why don't East Midlands Trains stop at St Albans?

The concept of a Kettering call was assessed in great detail as part of the MML 6tph LDHS. Ultimately, the core timetable we have now is the one that generates the most new passenger journeys, delivers the greatest commercial return and is, in my view, therefore the most optimum to the railway...
