Guildford via Woking stoppers. Why were they cut back to Woking?

Ah yes, I hadn't considered Woking Junction. I believe that there was an abandoned plan to grade separate this. Was the Woking bay the "consolation prize"?

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Amazon remains fine in my area. It depends a lot on the quality of your local delivery person. My heart sinks when anyone sends anything via Evri though, it means I'm in for a lot of back and forth to ever see my package. Going back to Currys, I ordered some printer ink on eBay recently, and...

Guildford via Woking stoppers. Why were they cut back to Woking?

Up until the late 90s there were half hourly Waterloo to Guildford via Woking stoppers using class 455s. With the construction of the up facing bay at Woking, these were cut back to become Waterloo to Woking stoppers. What was the thinking behind this? It was quite an infrastructure investment...

The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

At work (non railway) I've found that "be kind" is used to deflect from picking up someone, quite diplomatically, who isn't doing their job properly or being told something they don't want to hear. I really hate it. It's the workplace, not a kindergarten.

The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

I know this has been discussed to Kingdom come, but why are we subjected to all this noise, when in France, the only station announcements are train destination and calling points. Is the French railway network any less safe as a result? I believe not.

The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

The problem is now that everything has to be so wordy for some reason. The 1970s post was concise and to the point. If they must have announcements, how about "if you abuse staff we always prosecute". Done.

The London Bridge “our station staff” announcement…

Exactly. I will qualify this by echoing that abuse of any staff anywhere is unacceptable, but respect has to be earned in a public facing role. Respect the customer, an with the exception of obvious idiots, you will be respected back.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

If driver training is restarting in a couple of weeks, how long will it take, realistically, to have enough drivers signing 701s to be able to introduce further diagrams?

    Class 319's into storage/withdrawals tracker

Thanks. I wonder why that one is an outlier. Is it still Porterbrook owned?

    Class 319's into storage/withdrawals tracker

Are there any still at Long Marston?

    Class 321 storage/scrapping

Out of interest, what dictates what order things are scrapped in? I'd wrongly assumed that they'd empty Wembley of 321s before starting on the Warrington ones.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Given the critical shortage of stock on SWR, what's holding up getting the rest of the /4s into service?
  13. A

I didn’t know they had that!! Rolling stock you didn’t know that company operated.

I'd completely forgotten that First Great Western Link (which was the successor to Thames Trains, so a distinctly separate TOC to FGW) ran some of the 180s for a while. Whether FGW crew operated them or whether it was FGWL I'm not sure. It was all a bit of a holding pattern anyway prior to the...

I always forget the brief time that SWT had class 170s.

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

I'd hope that the Rosco hold on to these 458/5s for a bit, rather than a fast track to the scrap man. With the continuing delays to the 701s, at some point someone surely will crack and authorise the C6(?) for these and get them back on lease to SWR.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Isn't "re re re re relaunch" the noise made by a compressor on a class 455? Moderator note: Just a gentle reminder that this thread is for progress updates only; any posts of a speculative nature should be posted in the Speculative Discussion area. Please see the following thread...

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

This could be relieved a little by getting the remaining 458/4s in service. What's the issue holding that up?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Forgive the daft question, but if training has stopped, who are these training runs training?
