Paddington Elizabeth line escalator luggage shaming camera

The camera/screen idea sounds daft and pointless. I'm tempted to set a challenge to myself to take increasingly large luggage items on the escalators there and photograph myself on the screen. I wonder if I could borrow a piano from work?

Electric vehicles in Italy: are there any?

I was in Lucca last week and saw quite a number of electric utility vehicles (postal delivery, rubbish collection, courier package deliveries etc). There were also at least two of the new Citreon Ami electric cars. The historic centre of Lucca has ancient narrow streets, so small vehicles are...

Advantages of Smartcards over Contactless bank cards

I put my monthly travel cost onto oyster cards when I get paid. I find it easier that way than waiting for numerous daily charges to be debited to my bank account, sometimes several days later.

Why do ferry services not seem to work in the UK?

    There's the Woolwich ferry too.

    (more) antisocial behaviour on trains

That's my way too. 1720467029 I actually agree, constant loud announcements full of unnecessary rubbish (be careful in wet weather etc) make for a constant sensory overload.

    Terrace housing

There are still plenty of genuine back to back houses across Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, and the rest of the Calder Valley.

Front headlights on at the rear of the train

I've once reported via twitter white lights showing at the rear of a southeastern train traveling out of London Bridge. They thanked me and advised that they would contact the train crew urgently.

Driver forgot to turn lights on?

I used to regularly travel on the eastern end of the Central Line in the 1980s and 90s and it seemed like standard practice to keep lights off on the open air sections in daylight. Sometimes the guard would wait until the rear car (where the guards position was) was in the tunnel after Leyton...

    “Better than average” Wetherspoons

I use the app, I like it for the same reason, it not wanting to leave belongings unattended when going to the bar.

    “Better than average” Wetherspoons

I'm in one right now with music, I don't think it's a Lloyd's No 1 branded outlet. If it is it isn't obvious. Not that it matters.

Non standard track gauges that were and currently used in the UK

I believe there are a few remnants of dual gauge track from the Woolwich system, deeply hidden in a plot of land near Thamesmead Morrisons, which is inaccessible and contaminated. (The land, not Morrisons).

Christmas special 2023 on Real Time Trains

I've known this train to show up very briefly on other publicly accessible train info sites, in spite of it being a RTT created thing.

GWML / Elizabeth line disruption due to OLE down near Paddington

I caught a train from Tottenham Court Road to Abbey Wood around 8pm. It departed from the westbound platform, I think an Abbey Wood - Tottenham Court Road shuttle for a couple of hours, reversing at the crossover near Farringdon.

    “Better than average” Wetherspoons

They are opening a new outlet on the Euston Road in January. I can't see any obvious vacant premises near Charing Cross.

Nothern Line: Scary situation, doors did not open

I saw that happen recently on the Jubilee line, ie train door opened but PED didn't. Someone decided to force the PED to open, but the train door closed whilst he was doing so. Thankfully he got the PED open before the train started moving.

Are there any good scenic views on the underground when it is above ground?

The Central Line around Riding Valley and Chigwell goes over a viaduct with a view into the city.

Does London Blackfriars have step free access?

I think they are on the same level, so you just go round the end of the buffer stops straight to platform 2. No stairs, escalators or lifts.

November strike action on National Rail suspended - impact on next week's service

No. I don't work in the railway industry. If I was asked at around 3pm to work until eg 11pm, when I was planning to finish at 5 or 6pm, I would have no problem saying no. I value my own time.
