As if we weren't going to play that up today. The entire fact that we have train allocations publicly available now, to this degree, is that furore at the beginning of the year. My first discussion with ScotRail was literally the day after. Know Your Train now covers 5 train operators...

Train allocations are a really quite complicated and challenging problem even though it sounds like a really simple concept and thing to work on. Darwin, which powers most apps and websites bar RTT and a couple of others, does not really have the support for this kind of information. Its limit...

Bizarre RTT cancellation reason for an RHTT - "Adhesion Problems"!

I think it's partially wrong for that train specifically, but it wouldn't be wrong if that same code applied to a train specifically affected by a lack of rail adhesion train running. Talking about RTT itself, the thing here is though that it affects a sandite train which will only appear in...

Bizarre RTT cancellation reason for an RHTT - "Adhesion Problems"!

On the flip side, giving the full description of each code is probably too much information for the vast majority of users of the sites. The very early versions of RTT used the full descriptions and resulted in more complaints than the current position. The code is provided for those who...

Issue with train crew cancellation, yet train still ran

RTT shows the same as literally any other railway system that pulls this data from the CIF file format - which is a vast number of them. It is a semi-conscious decision by the train operator to load a train with that timing load, which the rolling stock that then operates on that path should...

Issue with train crew cancellation, yet train still ran

It has nothing to do with RTT being confused, as it isn’t. It shows merely what is in the path and is the same as every other railway system displaying pathing information.

Extremely unlikely. The majority of these requests come from railway staff, who would find it useful in their daily goings on at work, whose parent companies pay the grand total of zero towards the site. There is an internal, industry targeted, version of the site with this functionality, however.

My view was TRTS is typically called when the train is in its final preparations for departure, prior to being able to actually go. I did ponder about using 'Train Ready to Start' in the detailed mode specifically but decided that it wasn't worth having the difference between the two modes...

Preparing to depart is based on TRTS. Ready to depart will appear if the TRTS has been called and a route has been set. It will revert to At platform if the route gets thrown back.

Something a bit new and different today, and not something that many people expected - but feedback positive so far in that many didn't think they'd want it but now it's there it's useful so there we go. Track Your Train is a new feature today that provides the location of a train and...

GWR 0721 Portsmouth-Cardiff service not calling Bristol Temple Meads from Monday 14th September?

The activity on that schedule for just Monday at Bristol TM is RM-U. The normal for that train service is T RM. RM-U means reverses & gains coaches. T RM means calls & reverses. Likelihood is that when the -U activity was added, the T activity was removed by accident. It sometimes happens in...

2N10 0618 Dumfries to Newcastle - run by Northern Trains

This is a ScotRail service between Dumfries and Carlisle, and a Northern service between Carlisle and Newcastle. The codes probably haven't been set up correctly for this train service. In the non-Covid timetable, there's a couple of services from Glasgow Central to Newcastle via Dumfries and...

    LNER - Aberdeen/Inverness route knowledge

Not for LNER, no, but for all other supporting TOCs it does show empty stock moves - and this will probably be changed for LNER in the next month or two. Nevertheless, 5Z13 on 20th was operated by 800113. 5Z05 on 17th was operated by 800105 according to the systems.

No idea. Can't say I'm too fussed about the allocations part of it. They are a useful side benefit of Know Your Train rather than the cause of it.

    ScotRail services

RTT shows what is sent to it by the operator. We have noticed since the data has been available publicly that errors like this have been somewhat reducing for operators that are participating. Both 380101+380104 were allocated to the same diagram this morning, from 0315. 104 was removed from...

This is in the process of being resolved. While I have the capability to permanently deobfuscate their headcodes, I’d rather it was done at the NR end. It will probably take a while with their supplier though. Obfuscation on schedules is ATOC code based and then a train service code filter...

Longest current dwell time on a service?

2B39 sits at Brockenhurst for a further 11 minutes than the other 2Bs that sit there due to it being a good crowd absorber as Brockenhurst college kicks out at around 1615-1620, which is a 5-10 min walk away.
