I'd recommend the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. I went there for the first time this year, and thought it was a good line, with a few chances for locos to do their thing. The incline is an interesting operational feature too.

Sorry - got you. The 99 on its own should be able to proceed at reduced speed when the power is off unexpectedly for a section of the route.

If a 99 can't manage load 8 on diesel then it isn't exactly the game changer we all think it is.
