I vaguely recall in the late 90s being on a GNER HST from York to Dundee that was dragged by a 91 as far as Edinburgh before the front power car was swapped for the onward journey north.
I don’t know how far south the drag started, but presumably if the issue with the power car were found at...
Scotrail yesterday were advertising ticket acceptance on the sleeper this morning for travel between Perth and Inverness, due to pre-emptive cancellations.
Did this happen, and if so was the seated coach opened for the purpose?
I'm pretty sure the Royal Scotsman significantly overhangs P3 at Dundee. I remember arriving into P4 once and seeing it all the way back to the crossover, which is a fair distance away from the platform end.
But, again, this is largely moot in the context of Scotrail HSTs because few if any are...
Why would Dundee need additional terminus capacity for LNER?
And indeed, why would ScotRail running 9-car HSTs require an extension to the existing terminus platforms? Few if any “Inter7City” services terminate there.
There’s also no “wrong” platform for trains to/from Aberdeen. Both through...
There’s also the morning Dundee-Aberdeen, which runs with a “2” head code for some reason.
(A service that obviously couldn’t have still run while the line was closed...just to be mildly on topic ;))
I assume the reason LNER and CrossCountry didn’t run north of Edinburgh (except for the XC Plymouth-Dundee) was because of the sheer amount of dead mileage that would have been involved running empty from Dundee to Craigentinny every night, and back again in the morning?
Fine for the occasional...
You would struggle to get the 153 from the “south” platforms to the “north” platforms at Inverness in 7 minutes, especially when there’s bikes to unload and load.
There’s a car park next to the platform so my guess is either a forgotten handbrake (and the driver is returning to a nasty surprise), or another case of mixing up the middle and right pedals.
The doors being open might rule out the former.
Edit: StreetView link to the location showing the car...
It's a category A listed building so any electrification will need to go through various processes to ensure it doesn't have a significant impact on the appearance etc. (as with the Royal Border Bridge, as mentioned).
