    Roger Ford reckons a pendolino running at 140 mph on HS2 would save 15 minutes to Handsacre and could then tilt onwards on the WCML so not loosing any time.

    If it is immediately south of Peterborough and before Huntingdon that stretch is always a bit wobbly as the ground is unstable. Speed is also restricted for a few miles presumably for this reason ?

    mostly those that live in the north near manchester and whilst this has been argued many times on here birmingham is way larger than manchester who only achieves its population and size by counting all surrounding towns and conurbations.     why do people only ever include the fuel costs when calculating a car journey ? There are numerous additional costs involved even if having 5 people in the said car would make it cheaper than rail .

    The informed opinion is that an election is looking likely now for May 7. That means parliament breaking at the beginning of April which, if true leaves very, very little time for any wrecking tactics from sunak.
