it’s a fairly safe bet that standard class passengers and taxpayers will indeed be paying for 1st class refreshments.

For me, 1 + 2 without freebies for something like 30%-ish add-on. I look at so-called "first class" on Thameslink which is 2x2 maybe with a table and my reaction is "what's the point??"

You know you’re getting older when……

Yes, I was asked how much liquid do I take? With my postrate issues, my intake is directly linked to how easy it is to outtake. So while I would love to have more tea, coffee, water and diet cola, not to mention ale, I have other considerations to consider!!! But lesson learned, I'll drink much...

    Cricket

Yes, that's exactly the reason, pop concerts, and doesn't help to stop the wind on a windy day! As for Lancashire's efforts v Essex, I have no words. Well, none I could use on here.

Good news, bad news. Had a bone scan and everything's perfect, which is good news as my dad endured a broken hip so glad I'm sound. bad news, I had to have a blood test and it's getting harder for the nurse to find a suitable vein (just like the old girl). That is deffo a sign of aging, me...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

I would have thought any of the boat people couldn't wait to get out of our cold and wet climate!!

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

If he uses the RAF to send the "boat people" to Rwanda, as they are military planes what are the chances that the countries surrounding Rwanda won't let them into their air space? Never mind RAF, they might even refuse commercial jets entry if they think international law has been broken by the...

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

    More than I thought!

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

The road has been resurfaced so probably using the opportunity to install red lines. Is this gonna creep in to other cities?

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

Walking along London Road in Brighton I noted that there were double red no parking lines, which I thought only appeared in London and around some airports. Do any other towns/cities have double red lines?

    Printer Ink

Ecotank 2500 for about £160 on 2017; came with 4 100ml bottles to fill the tanks, 6 years later had to refill the tanks and the total of the 4 bottles (genuine ink) = £32. So at the rate I have used over the years it's costing me about £8/yr in ink - all colours + B/w. I do expect the printer...

You know you’re getting older when……

I tend to have a couple of watches in Spanish (summer) time so when I go I change watch rather than fiddle with the wheel which I have difficulty with! Also at home my microwave clock is on BST. All year. Because I haven't the foggiest and would probably lose the will to live if I attempted to...

Yet another Manchester rail tunnel thread

Just a direct link between Victoria and Piccadilly would do me! But priority must be to resolve the Castlefield Corridor congestion, which could involve tunnelling from the east, underneath the centre and serving Picc, emerging further south. If it wasn't for the money spent on the curve, a...

    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

If there's an alert that requires bags to be searched, then I think that is serious enough for dogs to be employed!! If there's no alert, why search?? As alluded to, cars and bags on trains aren't routinely searched.

Delays caused by services with faulty toilets

For those of us of a certain age with postrate problems (enlarged/cancer etc), having no access to toilets is a real issue. It's one reason I never travel back from Manchester of an evening if there's a bustitution planned. In my situation I carry a small emergency sealable pot in my bag and...

Should we have a "maximum" fare for any journey?

Agree about cars! Of course the pax may not have a car, but in any case they normally use the cost of fuel as the comparison, but a trip of, what, 600 miles return creates wear-and-tear on the engine, insurance is often based on miles/year, then roadside assistance, possibly an overnight stay if...

    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

The point about locked cars is valid, with the caveat that cars at many stations are generally parked some distance away from the building so would need an extremely large explosion. The thought occured if searching for explosives, rather than the human eye wouldn't sniffer dogs be more appropriate?

Should we have a "maximum" fare for any journey?

I'll just add this; https://twitter.com/jackfifield/status/1777442920708071836 He's going mid-week and it's not even peak hours, but even if the price were £99 I don't think I would do it - I'd fly to Newquay from Manchester and get the train from there. But again the price is eye-watering...
