Could Merseyrail services be extended beyond Hunts Cross towards Warrington?

Yes, I was thinking in terms of trains from Lime Street turning back at a reinstated Warrington Arpley Station (to serve the shopping area) and going no further. This would serve Widnes well and provide a useful passenger connection to the WCML. And by providing a stopping service on otherwise...

Could Merseyrail services be extended beyond Hunts Cross towards Warrington?

Local services from Warrington to Liverpool would best be provided by reopening the Fiddler's Ferry line to Bank Quay Low Level for passenger traffic. That would not interfere with express services via Warrington Central and provide a very useful connection.

Future of Wrexham-Bidston line, inc. possible franchise swap etc.

Yes, like the one at Oakland Airport, California. It had not occurred to me that Peel's ripoff profits from airport parking and drop off charges were the major obstacle to progress. But I think you have hit the nail on the head. Thank you.

Future of Wrexham-Bidston line, inc. possible franchise swap etc.

Given that the 230s are rebuilt London Underground rolling stock, it seems a shame not to leave the collector shoes in place for use to recharge the batteries.

Ideas for future High Speed Railway lines

I suspect people simply don't think it belongs in any of the UK Railway Forums. Try the International Transport forum perhaps?

When buying a car costs less than your train journey....

Yes, exactly, the highest fares are too high and need to be reduced. Who gets caught paying those highest fares? Usually the foreign tourist or someone just arrived from overseas on a flight. It leaves a bad taste with the very people whom it is not good to offend.

Ideas for future High Speed Railway lines

I don't see the DUP allowing that. A little piece of history that I did not know until recently and I found to be astounding - At the time of the Pearl Harbor attacks, Churchill sent De Valera an offer. If Ireland would join the war against Germany, Italy, Japan then Britain would cede Northern...

Row over female-only compartments being used by transgender people on Caledonian sleeper service

Yes. QED. You have correctly identified the problem.

Row over female-only compartments being used by transgender people on Caledonian sleeper service

The simple answer is that it costs "the earth" to provide a private cabin. In the case of a family or a group there is some social benefit. So a single traveller who insists on a private cabin should pay more, or at least the same, as a group occupying the same space. Basically it is fair to...

Row over female-only compartments being used by transgender people on Caledonian sleeper service

Thank you, you made my day! lol Really, the solution is couchettes for solitary travellers and cabins only for families or groups travelling and booking together. And if a solitary traveller really needs a private cabin then a hefty fee for that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couchette

Row over female-only compartments being used by transgender people on Caledonian sleeper service

Yes indeed. There is a market and a need at a price point for bays of four bunks with no door and the passengers expected to sleep fully clothed. Then the issue of people whose gendered appearance is in any way problematic simply goes away. And private cabins should be two bunks convertible...

"Train passenger fined £470 for not paying £2 fare (after he'd just spent £200 on another ticket)"

This kind of thing is exactly why my elderly sister, who is nearing 80 years old, still drives more than 50 miles each way to visit her son every few weeks. She could easily make the journey by rail and her son begs her to, but she doesn't want to make an honest mistake and fall afoul of this...

Trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly (11/03)

Indeed when I was a child there were a number of disused railways and children thought nothing of walking on the tracks. And for example on the line to the Winsford salt mines which, I seem to recall, had one (steam) train a week in the late 1950s. The West Coast mainline in nearby Weaverham was...

Trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly (11/03)

A simple answer - in most other countries it is allowed to walk on the railway provided it is safe to do so. And these protesters likely had foreign nexuses, or they wouldn't have been in that protest and thereby used to foreign practices. To be clear, I'm not justifying what they did, merely...

Crewe Hub government paper March 2018

One possibility would be to make Platform 13, and only Platform 13 UIC GC. Plus UIC GC clearances North of the station up to the HS junction - but not in Phase 2a, only in Phase 2b. Doing that would add considerable flexibility, especially in times of engineering possessions.
