No Horsham-Peterborough service Saturday 2nd March

Was there crush loading from Redhill yesterday with only 2tph? The Quarry and fast side to Purley was shut and only so many trains can run via Redhill, especially if stops at Redhill, Merstham, Coulsdon South and Purley all have to fit within the 'two-track' railway.

No Horsham-Peterborough service Saturday 2nd March

The line from Luton to Bedford was closed for engineering work, and Peterborough trains don't run through the core on Sundays. What makes that a shambles? The Arun Valley was shut south of Horsham, so a simplified service was in operation.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

2+2 and tables might be useful for those who get a seat but perhaps not ideal for the busiest trains.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

That isn't really what you are suggesting though. Southern and GTR aren't short of rolling stock to operate the contracted service. What you don't like is that the services and formations can't be increased from their current levels, which is a different thing, and effectively what the tender...

Will tesco from Inverness be operated by a GBRF 66 tonight?

Thanks for the clarification. That makes sense of the reports on the scot-rail forum that both 66739 and 66432 were involved.

Will tesco from Inverness be operated by a GBRF 66 tonight?

Are you sure that 66739 did the rescue? Railcam shows 66432 running from Kingmoor, so that would be what is doing 4Z47 south. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:58032/2024-03-18/detailed is the 1Z99 working.

Will tesco from Inverness be operated by a GBRF 66 tonight?

66739 is in Inverness for the southbound sleeper at 2045, which formed of 10 coaches, isn't going to be allocated to a single 73. Isn't the best bet that 66031 has been fixed?

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

The point of view that I take issue with is that Southern needs more rolling stock, just because it lost 46 455s and 19 313s. Passenger numbers have taken a nosedive and are recovering somewhat, and there may be some challenges during that recovery, but Southern may never need a fleet as large...

Capacity of HS2 during evening peaks.

HS2 isn't the constraint for services north of the point at which trains join the existing network.

    OAO on HS2 in theory

In reality, are the paths going to be left available for open access passenger operators to use, or open access freight operations? It might be noted that north of Hansacre there is no additional capacity after HS2, indeed possibly less spare than currently, and a need to run the same...

    Routeing Through London to c2c

When c2c are running into Liverpool Street at the weekend, changing at Stratford for Upminster is an even better route.

HS2 captive trains (and special gauge trains generally): diversionary routes & emergency measures?

The line was built to that gauge when it was envisaged that the full Y would eventually be built. With the full Y designing captive rolling stock would make sense. With just OOC to Curzon Street as the sole captive route, possibly ever, the rolling stock requirement is somewhat limited, and...

    OAO on HS2 in theory

We do live in a country where the terminus for HSR is going to be constrained as to how many trains can run from it in a given hour. There may be pressure to try to fill HS2 with services, but Old Oak Common can only reverse a limited number of trains, relative to the original plans for Euston...

London to Sheffield Any Permitted returns

No. All the relevant LNER flows are converted to single leg pricing, and the relevant Super Off-Peak Single to Sheffield which would have been 'Any Permitted' is routed 'Not via Leicester' to avoid people using it on direct EMR services. The LNER priced Super Off-Peak Single from London to...

Greater Anglia to install tables on its Stansted Express trains

Yes, but at the same spacing as the 3+2 seating and lots of room for standing passengers - see 700s, 701s, parts of the c2c 720s and the 730 fleet. Passengers who complain about standing might note that many modern commuter trains have seats for about 60 people in each carriage where once there...

Dorking? Are you saying that there are trains leaving Dorking with standing passengers throughout the day?

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

Some people might consider that we have perfectly comfortable seats for a 1-2.5hr journey already. Is is a very subjective matter.

No Horsham-Peterborough service Saturday 2nd March

Yes, like this on 8 March. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:G22039/2024-03-08/detailed https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:55505/2024-03-08/detailed

No Horsham-Peterborough service Saturday 2nd March

Southern services reverse in disruption in platform 2 at East Croydon, and Uckfield trains often reverse in platform 5 when the line into London Bridge is shut, but is it the case that Thameslink can't do this? (I appreciate that Southern trains reverse from the north in platform 5 all day so...
