Keolis/Amey to take over Wales and Borders

Downloaded the new app and it looks like it'll be back to paper tickets for me - ATW allowed a railcard discount on the mobile multiflex tickets, TfW do not. Pretty disappointing, really.

Autism awareness training for frontline GWR staff

That's good news, I had a GWR guard snap defensively at me after I told her she'd already seen my ticket - she thought I was being rude, rather than just giving her a piece of information. It turned out she would have preferred me to wait for her to work it out herself. Due to my autism, my...

    Aztec code and ticket barriers

I have an ongoing issue at Cardiff Central where if I activate my m-ticket just before going through the barriers, they choke on the Aztec code. Considering how little room there is for hanging around the concourse, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing differently. They've recently...

    Rucksack Wearer's Liability

You might like to know that some of us are spatially incompetent, and no amount of looking properly will assist us in judging distances or picking out a person from the rest of the enviroment. This is why I don't drive a car. In my case the perceivable universe is way less than half a metre away...

    Trains Arriving at Unlit Stations

I have to say, I've never been warned about lack of lighting - it happens occasionally, but seems to be fairly obvious when it occurs. At most the guard will pop over and ask if I need any help getting off the platform. (I don't, I carry a small torch with me when travelling at night)

    Forgotten to activate m-ticket

No, it does not. Presumably they're afraid it would be vandalised. It has a ticket office, but the hours are very short. I rarely get to see it open. I can assure you that I was not telling porkies about the lack of opportunities to buy a ticket. As for the telephone call, I'm involved in...

    Forgotten to activate m-ticket

In this case I boarded at Merthyr Tydfil for Pentrebach, but I usually travel from Pentrebach to Cardiff Central. It's a couple of quid difference in the latter case. You get a pack of 12 tickets for the price of 10.

    Forgotten to activate m-ticket

Not here they aren't, they're significantly cheaper. Anyway, I really wasn't asking about how to avoid it, I'm well aware that paper tickets are available. I was asking about the oddity of being in a situation where I've forfeited the right to use an m-ticket, but have no obligation to hold...

    Forgotten to activate m-ticket

I was rightly chastised by the guard today for forgetting to activate my m-ticket before boarding the train. I had absolutely no excuse, I had simply been in the middle of a phone call and forgotten. If this happens again, and it probably will, because I'm human, and I travel by train a lot...

    Ticket Inspectors And Railcards

Oh believe me I grumble when I have to juggle my things, a railcard, a debit card/pin machine and still have a hand free for the ticket I've just bought, all on a crowded and moving train... but that's only because I'm incredibly clumsy and all of those things I just listed are expensive or...

    Plusbus with mticket

Brilliant, thanks. It seemed too cheap to be true :D

    Plusbus with mticket

Before I embarrass myself on the train, does anyone know if I can buy a paper Plusbus ticket to accompany an electronic ticket stored only on my phone? The Plusbus website only refers to a "valid train ticket", not the medium. I'll be travelling with Arriva Trains Wales, but I suspect the...

    Bi-Linugal Branding/station signs.

That's because we Cumbrians know that it's Caer Luel, the fort of Leul. Presumably it sounded different in Gaelic. However, I never worked out why "Mirehouse" is prounced My-russ. There's a lot of names like that in Cumbria, where the spelling and pronunciation seem barely related.

    Bi-Linugal Branding/station signs.

That would be Cumbric, rather than Welsh - another Brythonic language, now sadly lost to time.

Interesting Observation: person dangling legs over platform edge

I wonder what the delay attribution would be for giving a massage to another driver? :D

"Duty" to seek out the guard (again!)

Full article here: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/you-could-now-fined-70-9686588 As far as I can tell, this is just bad reporting of business as usual. I use an ATW unstaffed station with no TVM, and I certainly won't be banging on the door of the back cab to insist on being...

    Train cancellations and advance tickets

When I booked assistance for a friend at Piccadilly we were corralled into a little area on the concourse and made to wait there until our train arrived. Not ideal for someone in the OP's position.

Effect of strike on Tuesday 26 May?

It's also scrolling past on the PIS as I sit here on a Welsh station platform with my suitcase waiting for the train. Nice to see some up to date information on there for once! ;)

Effect of strike on Tuesday 26 May?

Looks like my holiday's back on.

Effect of strike on Tuesday 26 May?

Given the price of a stamp these days, I think I'll cut my losses and merely vent my displeasure here, where at least it's free, if unproductive.
