Northern refusing to refund bus fare

Of course the rules for delay repay apply (in this case, for season tickets). But the OP isn't about that, it's referring to consequential loss due to using an alternative form of transport. .

    Coronavirus.

TBH, if the worst case scenarios come to pass, even though I'm a rail buff I think we might have more to worry about than the impact on railways. There are still large parts of the economy that depend on large numbers of people working together in factories and offices and that would grind to a...

Northern refusing to refund bus fare

The writer of the post didn't buy a ticket on the day - he had a SEASON ticket. The TOC advised against travelling due to the storm. I'm not sure they should be obliged to pay any compensation in the circumstances. It's not the same scenario as actually starting a journey and the TOC failing to...

Questions for people who have used e-tickets

Whereas I recognise e-tickets can be problematic, (1) I've lost paper tickets many times (2) I can always print off an e-ticket if I want

Merseyrail most punctual' rail network in UK for second year running

Sure, it's a simple network, and so on. But there was a time when that wasn't enough to make it a reliable service - the days when it was known as "Miseryrail". Glad to see things have improved.

Bad day for Liverpool & Newcastle on TPE

I have used the coach a few times. Journey time Liverpool to Leeds 2 hours 30, every hour, cost £10 walk on, c £4 advance, each way. Timekeeping good except in rush hour. Never any trouble getting a seat. As for the people suggesting flying via Schiphhol etc - the fact you are meant to arrive at...

Legality or otherwise of opening post for someone not at your address

In general, no, you shouldn't open mail not meant for you. I can think of exceptions - it's for a deceased relative or someone in your household not able to deal with their own affairs, etc.

Bad day for Liverpool & Newcastle on TPE

I'd intended to board the 7.24. Information boards assured me the 7.54 was running so i passed up the chance to get to Piccadilly and get to Leeds from there. Of course, the 7.54 didn't materialise either. Eventually reached Wakefield via Sheffield 90 minutes late. Everything fine on the way back.

Should Gov be sued over PRM failure?

Since the government has been re elected perhaps the voters should be sued as well.

New law will enshrine ‘right’ of commuters to minimum service during strikes, says Grant Shapps

We now live in a country where more working class people vote Tory than Labour. Something for anyone who considers themselves left or centre left, or any trade unionist, to reflect on.

New law will enshrine ‘right’ of commuters to minimum service during strikes, says Grant Shapps

It does look like grandstanding, typical Boris, almost impossible to enforce. But it will no doubt be popular with commuters. The RMT's tactics over DOO (regardless of the merits of the case) have perhaps not been calculated to maximise public support.

    Invalid Ticket

In this case, the passenger doesn't need to prove anything. A GPS record showing him as being in Derby rather than Bristol is EVIDENCE that this is where he was. Of course he could have given his phone to a mate and made a return trip to Bristol. Or pixies might have altered his GPS record. Or...

Should time restricted fares be abolished?

Because it costs a lot of money to provide rolling stock and track capacity that is only fully utilised for a couple of hours each day in each direction. As for the original question - if fares were standardised they would inevitably be closer to the peak than the off peak fares. Off peak...

Trivia: Large towns which deserve more trains per hour

The last time you could get a train direct from St Helens to Manchester was 1952, from St Helens Central via Lowton St Mary's and Irlam to Manchester Central. By the end there were only half a dozen trains each way per day.

    I am truly scared.....

"excuses" is not the right word, as it suggest the OP is making up the whole thing to avoid prosecution. We have to assume here he is telling the truth unless there is something clearly inconsistent or phoney about the story presented.

Edinburgh - Lichfield TV via Glasgow?,

The minimum connection time at Central includes an allowance for getting between the High Level and Low Level platforms, which of course wouldn't be necessary in this case. And 30 minutes seems a little optimistic for Queen St-Central particularly if you're not quick on your feet.

Gare du Nord to Montparnasse tomorrow lunchtime.

Whenever I've had to do this I've used RER B then line 6 as suggested.

Formations of TPE loco hauled services before 'Sprinterisation'

That's not how I remember it. The sprinterisation coincided with the diversion of Liverpool-Leeds trains via Warrington. The last loco hauled trains through Warrington Central were the 5 coach Liverpool-Sheffield trains which I remember using in 1988. Hauled by class 31s I think.

    Preston to Aberdeen

No reason was given. With a short time left until the train my relative decided to buy vua phone rather than enter into a prolonged discussion with the ticket clerk. The TPE tickets come up when you do an NRE search.
