    Ticket Inspectors And Railcards

For me it depends where the ticket came from. There are tell tale signs of Internet retail and ticket vending machines and if the ticket comes from those sources I usually check the railcard. Tickets obtained from booking offices with reliable staff who are known to me, or from on avantix...

    Should all preservation society's merge?

It would probably kill the smaller and less popular sites in the drive for efficiency. The Heritage Railway Association is a representative body for all member railways of which there are quite a few. I would like to see the HRA developed, as I believe it could be used to develop...

"I'm going to the papers about this"

Now I know you are just playing devils advocate and being a pedant over the wording in my original post. Your frothing doesn't alter that in the context of this thread, the machine is more than adequate for the location. They do sell tickets for the following day, they can sell 7 day...

"I'm going to the papers about this"

Well, excepting Rangers and rovers, yes. And the lack of rover ticket availability will not affect the revenue issue that is ticketless travellers on the £1.10 single and £1.20 return to Gwersyllt.

"I'm going to the papers about this"

Wrexham General has a ticket office open throughout the day and a full S&B cash (notes & coin) and card TVM offering the full range of fares. Wrexham Central has a full S&B cash (notes & coin) and card TVM offering the full range of fares. Both machines were fitted at more or less the same time...

The damage done by overzealous revenue protection activities

What annoys me is the absolute majority of hard working and struggling low paid people do the right thing even if it is a struggle. The vast majority of the people who try it on, don't buy at the first op, avoid and evade are doing so because they think they are being clever and they don't see...

    Virgin West Coast reservation signage

I was surprised a few weeks ago to join a pendo to hear the announcement along the lines of... The reservations have not been loaded but please sit in your reserved seat if you have one. ...Virgins normally high quality customer service went out of the window with argument after argument...

Jeremy Corbyn would consider women-only rail carriages

Hence why my comment was A lady on the news said she felt uncomfortable in a carriage with drunk men on a recent journey. I'd like to see the issue of drunk, rowdy, antisocial behaviour tackled rather than the separation of the passengers.

The same source also included ... • It is certainly not a time for un-informed or miss-informed rule making, especially when the existing rules have worked so well for so long. Hear hear to that.

    Shoreham Airshow Crash

Going to invest in a cotton wool and bubble wrap manufacturer... Saw this earlier • UK has long held an exemplary air display record in terms of public safety. • Prior to Saturday’s accident, the last time a member of the public was killed at a UK airshow was in 1952, nearly 63 years ago. •...

    Shoreham Airshow Crash

If true a Retrograde step and not what made this country great. Before I get attacked for my opinion, I offer full sympathies to those involved in the accident but it's a typical modern day knee jerk reaction.

    Shoreham Airshow Crash

The report will, I'm sure, offer some answers. A tragic set of circumstances came together to lead to a relatively high loss of life. 'If' is a big word. If the plane had crashed 20 yards further on we could be talking of the miraculous survival of the pilot and no fatalities. If the...

    Shoreham Airshow Crash

A very nasty and tragic accident. An unfortunate combination of factors which led to the deaths of members of the public who were not connected to the event itself (spectators etc). Thoughts are with all those affected. Air shows in the UK bring a huge amount of pleasure and excitement to many...

'Due to emergency services dealing with an incident'

Interesting thread looking at some tricky issues. My trains, particularly at the moment carry a lot of families, young kids etc. and, while I always strive to give an honest reason for the delay, I'd always try to skirt around advising of a person being hit by a train. Any thoughts...

Greater Manchester Railways are a "Constant Building Site"

If the Bury and Altrincham lines had stayed as heavy rail but with a much higher service level the growth would still have occurred. Metro link was seen as a low cost way to provide brand new electric trains. The same happened in the Midlands. If the line from Birmingham snow hill to...

"Duty" to seek out the guard (again!)

I think we have established (once again) that the "duty to seek out the guard" doesn't really apply. However, in ATWs defence, I suspect the idea behind it was to ask the passenger to make more of an effort to pay. In the original article the comment about "seeking" isn't in a quote from...

"Duty" to seek out the guard (again!)

Just to add another thought into this. On some routes, partucularly local stopping services it is very noticeable as a guard how many passengers actively walk away from you to avoid buying a ticket. How many walk a distance to sit in the unit you do not pop out from when two non gangwayed...
