Virgin / Stagecoach win East Coast

Can't argue with any of that, East Coast have always been great when we have travelled with them, be it Standard or First Class. So much so that we actually divert away from Virgin West Coast to head over to Leeds for our trips to London.

Virgin Trains Ticket inspectors at Manchester Piccadilly

To be fair I think he was in the rear unit of the Voyager. But knowing its a double Voyager coming in surely the staff at Euston should be doing barrier checks?

Virgin Trains Ticket inspectors at Manchester Piccadilly

Sad to say Virgin Trains back to what we tend to see half the time this morning. Travelled on the 06:09 from Wigan NW to Euston and not a single ticket check was done anywhere on the journey.

    Virgin Guard Assaulted

Just to add to this. One of my friends at work is an ex TPE/Virgin employee who is very good friends with the guard who was assaulted. The guard had to spend 4 days in hospital and suffered internal bleeding as well as a slight bleed on the brain. Basically he was lucky, if you can really say...

    Bolton to get 5th Platform

The only problems with that philosophy though is that to the east of Bolton, Moses Gate, Farnworth and Kearsley there are no car parks. Only Lostock, Horwich Parkway, Blackrod, Westhoughton and Bromley Cross has car parks, all to the west of the town centre. Then you have First Manchester buses...

    Bolton to get 5th Platform

Whilst I do agree with you, at the same time it is poor that a big town like Bolton will have very little station car parking while at the same time trying to tempt people to ditch the car for the daily commute. Hopefully over the next few years a solution to that particular problem can be made.

    Virgin Guard Assaulted

The advice given on the day at Oxenholme was to get on the First TPE Edinburgh service that was awaiting the cancelled Virgin Service to leave and vacate the platform, then to change trains at Carlisle for the First TPE service that ran about an hour or so after the Virgin one. Off the top of...

    Romania advice

A bit of a bump for this topic as this morning I've just booked the tickets for our day trip to Brasov. For the two of us in first class it has come to the grand total of £38 for the return journey :D Add to that the pittance that you pay on the subway system and you have a very cheap day out...

    EC Rewards

As a leisure user of East Coast this scheme has been great as we have managed to get a few free trips from it during the length of the scheme. The next one is next Friday when we go on a bash from Leeds to Aberdeen on the 07:00 and come back on the 18:16 that evening from Aberdeen to Leeds, the...

Cross Country - Manchester to Southampton

That's what seems to have happened. Last night on East Coast the 9:27 and the one after were still showing at £41.90, yet today now you can book on the Cross Country website the price is £52.80 for both trains, the £41.90 price I booked is something I have not come across before when looking at...

Cross Country - Manchester to Southampton

I was just wondering if someone can shred some light on something that on the face of it doesn't make any sense, but looking at it from a cynical viewpoint it might. Before I give the details of the booking I would just like to say I booked via East Coast's website, as I would do normally to...

Observations as a conductor doing tickets..

I don't understand it myself. As someone who pays the correct fare all the time I am more than happy to show my ticket as many times as need be if it helps to prevent loss for the TOC's. I seem to remember some journeys in the 80's as a kid my ticket having rather a few hole punches in it

    Virgin Guard Assaulted

I'm sorry mate but you weren't there to see the manner of these people at Oxenholme. They were quite clearly told that the guard had been thumped in the face by drunks. Not one of them was appalled in the slightest, the only concern was getting to Glasgow on time and having a go at the poor lady...

    Virgin Guard Assaulted

A couple of years ago we were flying back from Bucharest to Manchester on the last flight of the day via Munich with Lufthansa, the flight was cancelled due to technical problems at Munich. Lufthansa swung into action like a well oiled machine and arranged a hotel stay overnight, transfers and...

    Virgin Guard Assaulted

Bad news from Oxenholme. We were on the 6:25 Wigan North Western to Glasgow Central service which has been canceled due to a thug punching the guard. The police have been in attendance and hopefully the scrote will be dealt with in the strongest possible way! As for our journey, we have been...

Cancelled TPE - Use tickets on Virgin?

I have to be honest and say that even with a slightly better knowledge of how things work than the general public I find all of the terminology a bit perplexing and open to interpretation from train manager to train manager and various TOC's. I really don't know how normal everyday travellers...

Cancelled TPE - Use tickets on Virgin?

The problem with the train this morning seemed to be that it was originally formed of an 8 car Class 350 of which the front section of the train was disconnected as it "for safety reasons" to Glasgow and back. The 4 cars just about managed without anyone having to stand, well up until Wigan...

Cancelled TPE - Use tickets on Virgin?

Thanks for the link. Thankfully the TPE train is coming up to save us from a Pendolino

Cancelled TPE - Use tickets on Virgin?

Apologies if this in in the wrong section. Myself and my wife have come up to Glasgow today to try out the new TPE 350's, 8 car set with first half being London Midland btw. However we are booked on the 15:09 back to Wigan NW and looking at the National Rail site it seems the train I'm...

    Romania advice

 In the case of East Coast I would say generally yes, in terms of Virgin well that can't possibly be serious in my experiences with them in First Class sad to say. One thing we won't do is get into a taxi as it is a dodgy thing in Bucharest. Thankfully the Metro covers where we want and...
