TPE Nova 3 (Class 68 + Mk5s) updates and withdrawal from service

Absolutely, I was on a 3 car 185 earlier today which was rammed from Huddersfield, and passengers were left behind at Dewsbury. Didn't help a large number of seats were reserved and luggage was blocking doorways and part of the aisle. The Nova 3s may not have provided much capacity given they...

Northern appoints Network Rail Executive as new COO at Northern

Tell me about it! The staff make no effort to manage the crowds, so it ends up becoming a case of whoever pushes the most gets through. Seems at complete odds with the work being done at Euston too to improve passenger flow, the last time I passed through when the box was in use the crowds were...

Northern appoints Network Rail Executive as new COO at Northern

Indeed, Tricia must have been involved in approving some of Northern's processes. Just about everything Northern do is to make things easier for themselves, often at the expense of passengers, like refusing to apply delay repay to P-coded trains or installing the ridiculous polygraph at ticket...

    Leeds Station Improvement

Those inspections are a pain! Was caught up in one a few weeks back, the staff were making no effort to control the crowds and it was quite unpleasant with a lot of pushing and shoving. It didn't help that most tickets did require additional inspection, and the staff were then preventing anyone...

    Leeds Station Improvement

When I passed through Leeds this evening, all escalators at the south side were out of action. The barriers at Victoria are awful - it's really awkward to position the ticket over the reader. Can only assume those who designed and ordered them have never tried using them!

Your Operator of the Year 2023

I rarely have issues when travelling with LNER, so would put them as the best. Majority of their frontline staff are excellent, and the stations they manage are welcoming. Northern would be the worst, can't think of anything they do well.

    Northern Ad hoc cancellations

Indeed, both Skipton and Leeds seem to be short of conductors. Last Saturday the 1708, 1713 and 1720 from Shipley to Leeds were all cancelled due to lack of crew. Northern are also short forming a lot of the Carlisle services, with 2 car 158s showing up far too often, further reducing available...

    Northern Ad hoc cancellations

Things will only get worse, she seems to be a big part of the problem. It's disappointing Northern feel this is acceptable. If replacement buses were unavailable you would think advising passengers to make their way to Skipton then refunding taxi expenses from there would be a reasonable...

    Northern Ad hoc cancellations

Absolutely, it's an appalling mess at the moment. Disappointingly there appears to be no accountability, and I feel until the senior management at Northern are removed, nothing will change. There's a worrying trend of last trains being cancelled too - looking at Leeds for example tonight the...

    TPE Plan for the future

Absolutely. They really need to be reducing the number of advanced/reserved seats during this timetable to ensure there's space for everyone to board, otherwise passengers at stations like Morley and Batley have a high chance of being left behind especially if a single 185 turns up. I also worry...

    Transdev Blazefield

There does seem to be a glitch with the app recently where it's underestimating the journey time. Like how it thinks Saltaire - Bingley can be done in 4 minutes when it's scheduled for 9. The displays at the bus stops are much more accurate, although seeing where the bus is on the live map...

    Transdev Blazefield

Indeed, there's been some consecutive journeys cancelled too just to add to the gap in service. It must have been apparent Harrogate were going to struggle resource wise before the timetable commenced, and it seems Transdev haven't learnt from their shambolic behaviour in Lancashire which has...

    Transdev Blazefield

That's not a good list, and disappointing to see more than 1 M4 showing given BSIP funding is being used to reduce the fare between Keighley and Airedale Hospital to £1. That really is awful, thoughts to all involved. Would the knock on effects really last for 48 hours? They would be better...

    December 2023 Timetable Change

Indeed, it leaves no spare capacity to deal with events or issues on the day, and Northern and other operators will be left to deal with the fallout at inconvenience to their own passengers. TPE will hopefully try to manage capacity through a reduction in advances/seat reservations so those...

    Northern cancellations getting worse

That's really not a good month! The services I use most fall in to the West/North Yorkshire inter urban group, and with 7.9% of services cancelled and a further 10.7% short formed really highlights the lack of capacity provided versus the train plan.

    Northern cancellations getting worse

This week has seen quite a sudden increase in cancellations, and far too often consecutive services are cancelled. It doesn't help that there's also been an increase in short forms

I've noticed these too. There's even some of the Presidents running around promoting the 760 on the interior panels!

    Transdev Blazefield

Very true, Keighley's Shuttles are reasonably reliable given their age, it's the interiors which let them down. The ex-Witchway B7s (2750-2764) could be on borrowed time though, with WYIS reporting 2761 having gone for scrap and 2 of Blackburn's examples also withdrawn.

They certainly are knackered! Although in fairness they seem fairly reliable considering their age, and a repaint and internal tidy up would make a big difference
