London CableCar Free for Cyclists ... Why?

There are a few discounts aimed at locals/regulars - free morning travel for cyclists is one of them. That long predates City Hall's move to the Royal Docks. It's not formally advertised, but people holding Parkrun barcodes have been carried free before 10.30am to help those getting to/from...

    Eurostar with a fractured ankle.

This was the situation I was in a few years back - I was actually travelling through to Barcelona! I didn't know about assisted travel then but thankfully wasn't travelling alone and all went well with Eurostar - the biggest problem going out was crossing Paris to reach the Barcelona train...

    Bakerloo Line Refurb?

A lobbying group of councils has been pushing for the upgrade and the Lewisham/Hayes extension in one go: https://centrallondonforward.gov.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Page-Numbers-revised-H372051_REP_001F_Bakerloo-Extension-Revised_Digital.pdf

    DLR Thamesmead extension Consultation

The key driver for the extension is not the existing residents of Thamesmead, but the construction of two major, privately-funded riverside developements. Everything else is a happy consequence. That said, while I think the extension would do good in the long run, it's a bit of a fob-off...

Could an extra loop be created from Greenwich to Blackheath?

The Angerstein branch line is in the way, as is a Met Police car pound. The land could well be developed in the coming years as well.

How is it decided whether a station should be moved inside the TfL Travelcard/Oyster (or other PTE) area?

When the zones were marked out on timetables the out-of-London bit of the 96 and most other routes was labelled “country”. (In a few places the bus zones went beyond Greater London for a short distance to save hassle, eg, Waltham Cross bus station in Herts and Knockholt Pound in Kent)

St Albans one-day Travelcard on Thameslink Key

That’s a useful one, thank you!

St Albans one-day Travelcard on Thameslink Key

That’s pretty good, sounds like a better option instead - thanks. The other alternative I was thinking about was doing one part of the trip on Oyster (also with Gold Card) and splitting at West Hampstead (taking the Jubilee Line back to North Greenwich instead). Yours will probably work...

St Albans one-day Travelcard on Thameslink Key

Hello all. Just bought a ticket for a gig in St Albans next month. Current plan is to travel from Charlton to St Albans on Thameslink, but - as return services via London Bridge and even Elephant & Castle finish early - to come back to Farringdon and hop on the last Elizabeth Line to Woolwich...

East London Line before December 2007

Yes, that's my recollection too, because New Cross now has a worse service (4tph) than it did in Underground days. Obviously New Cross Gate has a much better service.

Solution reached to save Day Travelcards

Mod note: Continuation of https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/tfl-proposes-to-withdraw-day-travelcards.247184 BBC London's transport editor Tom Edwards says a deal has been done to save them. https://twitter.com/BBCTomEdwards/status/1716757634009677922

    Fares inflation (Travelcard / Cap)

All-zone One Day Capitalcards were £2.50 in June 1987: https://www.srpublicity.co.uk/nse/nse04.htm (edit: looking more closely at the ad, and thinking back to what I paid when I first started using them, I think they were £2.60 in 1988)

Trivia: Craziest/Weirdest bus terminus locations in London

Not as crazy as you’d think - there’s a big crown court complex there and a lot of housing across the road.

Why do peak Victoria to Gillingham trains call at Crofton Park & Bellingham and not Catford

The locals at Crofton Park campaigned for it. Not sure about Bellingham, though.

    Wrong roundel

Yes, the slogan is "We are Lewisham", which was used for its time as London borough of culture last year. "This is Croydon" is the equivalent slogan this year.

Docklands Light Railway - Thamesmead Extension (Discussion)

It is very frustrating - arrive by train at Barking Riverside and you can see Thamesmead right in front of you. Yet there's no way across. There does seem to be a "computer says no" attitude at TfL to this link, which is tragic considering how many years people have waited for decent public...

    Widened Lines

You can see where the tunnel fits into the plans here - https://museum.london/ - but it doesn't have the artist's impression of what it'll look like that was shown at the old museum's final weekend. edit: here's an image https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-39880918
