Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

… am sure a lot of people said similar stuff back in the 1930s.

Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

Everything you consume, every item you purchase, every book you read, every subscription, political affiliation, every journey you make, recorded … it is all well and good when the 'power' is 'supposedly' working for you but one thing this virus situation has shown is just how easily that could...

Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

The very obvious difference between withdrawing cash and buying things is that the card providers have no idea how you are spending it - while you may be very happy for that info to belong to any organisation that pays for it some people do prefer to keep some elements of privacy to their lives...

Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

Best make sure you keep on the good side of the 'card providers' then lest they ever decide your politics/beliefs don't fit their agenda.

Coronavirus: Is this the end of physical cash? Will we go completely electronic?

Maybe being an old Luddite I just don't get it - but why the rush to have every single aspect of your life committed to a corporation/government (and by default these days the Chinese Communist party's) mainframe? I know so much of it has become unavoidable but the taint of control offered to...

Woman asked to give up seat on train for child.

Wouldn't arranging large scale infrastructure projects to cope with increased passenger usage be difficult to implement when the population increases quite drastically over a relatively short space of time?

The BBC - is it worth fighting for?

Kind of reminds my first trip to the States - which was at a time when we only had three or four channels here. It was a novelty having 90 odd channels to flit at first but it didn't take long to realise that they may have had more channels but there was less choice.

If all of the supermarket chains in the UK except for Aldi and Lidl disappeared, would you care?

I believe the comment may have been referring to Morrisons practice of not providing anything for you to put your loose veg in - i.e. no plastic or paper bags on the sections. It kind of reminds me, though it was many decades ago, as a pimply youth working for a now defunct (or should say a...

Future of Wrexham-Bidston line, inc. possible franchise swap etc.

The problem with Birkenhead North is blocking the road while tipping out and reversing. The Sunday service used to operate from Wrexham to New Brighton which could have provided a better means of reversing the service without obstructing the through road but the Bidston curve was removed back in...

The BBC - is it worth fighting for?

Another notable change is the steady increase of the amount of ads per hour. I believe the maximum is now 12 mins per hour but this does not include self or cross channel promotion of programmes which can easily push advertising of one form or another to over a quarter of a channel's output -...

'Available' as opposed to 'Available if Not Occupied'

The train had originated from Liverpool which probably wouldn't give a great deal of notice either but had the train come from Glasgow and you booked a ticket from Rugby a few hours ahead of departure then it may be feasible to have standby reserved which are vacant but may be reserved further...

'Available' as opposed to 'Available if Not Occupied'

Incidentally the whole carriage was unoccupied till Rugby when a couple boarded so it was unlikely any issues would have arose on that particular train. Could these seats be for 'last minute' or 'late' reservations ? I can see the potential point in marking those seats as such if people boarding...

The BBC - is it worth fighting for?

Commercial television advertising is far more political - it is overwhelmingly a force for the right and is often tantamount to brain washing at it's most insidious and yet some of you want to abolish one of the few remaining spaces not polluted by the filth the advertisers churn out. The BBC...

The BBC - is it worth fighting for?

The quality of the BBC has seriously deteriorated since it's move to Manchester but it is still far superior to having to put up with the mind numbing brain washing advertising. I have come to detest that Nesbit's voice and that peloton add is an abomination - so the BBC for all it's faults is...

'Available' as opposed to 'Available if Not Occupied'

Caught the 22:05 Tamworth to Euston earlier and in coach F seats 1,2,3 and 7 were 'Available' while seats 4, 5, 6 and 8 were 'Available if Not Occupied'. Am wondering what the distinction is between the two terms.

    Wetherspoons

It's a case of quality over quantity though - I can wait for somewhere decent to open as opposed to joining the shuffling herd waiting outside the Wetherspoon at 9 a.m.

    Wetherspoons

Yes, the corporate god of size being everything means we have more and more larger pubs whereas the smaller proper locals pubs end up being turned into flats. Hopefully the rise of the micropub will reverse this trend - not saying there isn't a place for the large drinking barns just that some...

    Bus route numbers

I vaguely recall that although Merthyr Corporation didn't use route numbers on buses but did have letters on some stops in the centre indicating the destination - ABCD for the Abercanaid route kind of stood out.
