    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

If I remember rightly, the 14 day rule is if you’re loaning the vehicle AND O disc. If it’s just the vehicle, then no, it can be for as long as you want.

Stagecoach East (Bedford, Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterborough)

Rather than driver availability, it sounds like it might be a genuine operational issue where because the journeys operate at a different time in the school holidays, those journeys have, in error, not been included in a shift when compiling the duties. If it was a driver availability issue...

    D&G Buses

Can confirm, I drove it to Grantham earlier - the other two are still with D&G and I don’t think there are plans to ship them out in the immediate future. 530 should’ve originally been the one coming here, but Sod’s Law struck, and it’s now awaiting a new engine! (Which is even more annoying...

Yep, we use bus workings. You’ll sometimes hear them referred to as ‘car lines’ too.

Is the 58 Macclesfield-Buxton the perfect bus route?

I drove this route last summer for a couple of weeks - on one day, carrying a group of about 15 ramblers from Macclesfield to the Cat & Fiddle. I think every journey I drove was well-loaded, and there was a good mix of locals and tourists on board (judging that by a) the mix of local authority...

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

There are multiple low bridges on the Stagecoach 31, Brylaine B5, and also PC Coaches 55 (which all follow the same route in this area) between Branston and Metheringham. The first is 13ft3 at Station Road, Potterhanworth; the second is 14ft0 on Lincoln Road, Dunston.

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

Centrebus in Grantham have a few: Service 9 (Grantham-Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir) can only use singles because of two low bridges - one being Springfield Road rail bridge in Grantham (11ft6), the other being as you come in to Woolsthorpe, where one of the many driveways on the Belvoir estate passes...

    D&G Buses

Very true! That’s being administered by an organisation called RTIG - I was told that full information would be hopefully be available by Christmas, but that has of course passed us by, so I assume there’s a sticking point holding things up. If I remember correctly, in the original proposal for...

For the newest vehicles (anything which entered service on or after September 2019), it comes in to force in just 10 months time - they have to be fitted with the equipment, and it must be operational by October.

    D&G Buses

Taking a look at some data from the last couple of months, it’s evident those journeys do actually need that amount of added time - they frequently become heavily delayed en route.

The ticket machine and next stop displays have their own, separate GPS antennae. It’s a shame nobody’s come up with a way to integrate the lot yet!

Trivia: First and last journeys on a service

I did both on the X3 between Lincoln and Newark which Stagecoach ran between May 2010 and April 2011 - I was both the first and last passenger to have ever travelled on the route!

    Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Bus News

That was to do with the coaches used on that route being non-PSVAR, and so non-compliant with the terms of the SQPS (the bus partnership for Nottingham at the time).

Software for audio/visual announcements on buses

You’d need to amend all the data going in to the display in order to show stops on the diversion - which depending on how long the diversion is going on for, and whether the vehicles have the ability to be updated remotely or if a member of staff needs to go round with a memory stick updating...

Software for audio/visual announcements on buses

The software to program Hanover’s next stop systems is called Hanover Central, and is separate from that used to program the destination displays, which is called HELEN. For Mobitec displays, it’s the same MobiInfoEdit software for everything, but you need a different licence to program next...

It’ll be clearer in person - Hanover’s full colour displays have a high refresh rate, meaning they don’t turn up in photographs very well.
