Should people with schizophrenia who commit crimes be sent to secure institutions?

I don't know anything about this offender's previous offence, but it he was sentenced to a fixed period of imprisonment he would have been released after serving half of it. No psychiatrist (or other 'expert') would have been involved in the decision. If he had been sentenced to a hospital order...

Does being stranded for several hours constitute false imprisonment?

False imprisonment requires an intention to deprive the victim of liberty. Loss of liberty resulting from an accident, or even negligence is not false imprisonment.

    Self discharge freight trains

What about the stuff the grabber can't get out (like Alan Bennett's 'little bit of sardine left in the corner of the tin' ). If this has to be removed by a man with a shovel there must be major H&S concerns. Or perhaps the residue is just left in?

    Brighton line Blockade

Brighton and Hove is a city, having received its charter in 2000. Sneering put-downs can't alter facts.

My Idea To Reopen Folkestone Harbour

The west-facing junction with the SE mainline leads to a reversing siding and thence to the harbour branch. This was designed as a safety precaution to prevent any train from approaching the branch at speed and being unable to slow down on the steep gradient to the harbour. Presumably the same...

    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

A face-saving solution will have to be found, and found soon, or the whole railway industry and the travelling public will pay the price. Thameslink, like the banks, is too big to fail. The politicians know that bad railways loose votes, but spending money to make them better seems to be just as...

Ashford 'Little&Often' minibuses to cease in June

Are you saying that the statement is not sensible (in the sense of being inaccurate), or that it should not be made public, or both? I know nothing about this topic but I appreciate the information posted on this forum and find it refreshing to read contributions from well-informed sources, and...

Does the railway industry recognise acoustic shock disorder (ASD)

Ah, another addition to the ever expanding catalogue of dubious diseases, all with catchy three-letter acronyms (or TLAs for short)! Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME -damn!- only two letters), Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Repetitive Strain Injury...

Arriva Trains Wales Fare Dodging Prosecution

'Your Honour' is the form of address for a circuit judge in the Crown Court, unless he or she is sitting in the Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey), in which case it is 'My Lord / Lady'. This is also the correct form of address for High Court Judges.

Arriva Trains Wales Fare Dodging Prosecution

Just one tip. If you are asked a question by the prosecutor or your solicitor (if applicable), address your answer to the magistrates, not to the solicitor. Magistrates are addressed as 'Your Worship(s)' or 'Sir', but don't lay it on too thick! Good luck.

    Cracked skin on fingers.

The problem is dehydration and the solution is to apply E45 FREQUENTLY - ie half a dozen times a day at least. Buy a big tub from Boots and keep rubbing it in. Avoid solvents and detergents which will remove oils from your skin. E45 will work, but you need to persevere!

Time to convert 3rd rail to OHLE in light of recent snow/ice problems?

Because replacement of the 3rd rail network with OHLE would only benefit London commuters for about one day a year and do absolutely nothing for the rest of the country who would have to forego improvements to their networks in order to pay for it.
