    Northern Class 195: Construction/Introduction Updates

Travelled on a new 195 yesterday, overall I'd say they're very good, but I do think that they look and feel a bit 'cheap', so should fit in really well at Northern! Even so, it's an upgrade on what is there already! On my return trip between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport at 3pm...

Examples of unusual calling patterns amongst regular services

Before the May timetable change, there was a morning Buxton - Manchester service which ran fast from Hazel Grove to Manchester, even skipping Stockport. I used to call it the witchcraft service, getting into Manchester in 16 minutes from Hazel Grove by any means of transport blew my mind!

    Northern on train displays

You mean that you actually managed to get a guard to announce a station?! They don't bother in these parts - probably too busy bickering over who should open the doors.

    Arriva Rail North DOO

As a Northern passenger I've lost all sympathy for the guards cause.

Northern timetable plan for May 2018

Looks like most of the Hazel Grove - Manchester trains are now departing from P1 at Hazel Grove - which seems to be causing some confusion for those who are creatures of habit and don't check the boards! The on board screens/announcements were very sure that the 0921 was stopping at Heaton...

    Manchester Oxford Road Bus 'improvements'

Most of Oxford Road between Whitworth Park and the city centre is being converted to a bus only route - so bus lanes won't really be needed.

    Tram switching directions

I've occasionally seen this done on Metrolink at Piccadilly Gardens late at night. Presumably some sort of malfunction?

Virgin Trains removes standard class quiet zone; worst intercity TOC in living memory

Good. Noise happens. If you want silence, go and buy a place in the country and work from home. If you can't stand noise other people make, then perhaps travelling on a train full of people isn't the best option for you. I think the OP is very anti Virgin, judging by their other thread...

How easy is it to get on the wrong train?

I remember when I used to commute through New Street, my train from Droitwich was timetabled to arrive at 18:13 while my (very unofficial) onward Virgin train to Coventry left at 18:10. Because of timetable padding on the Droitwich service, it was a dash but I rarely missed it (checking...

Route: METROLINK CTLZ vs Any Permitted

So I can buy the more expensive Any Permitted ticket and use it in the evening peak, unlike the metrolink ctlz version?

Route: METROLINK CTLZ vs Any Permitted

Hazel Grove - Bolton on brfares There are two types of SDR and CDR available, one routed "METROLINK CTLZ" and one routed "Any Permitted". What is the difference? I've never understood the "METROLINK CTLZ" routing as you wouldn't use the Metrolink on this journey. Are both tickets...

23.00 London Euston-Man picc why run it?

I used to catch this train fairly regularly a year or so ago, and it was always on the departure boards as "London Euston via Birmingham N S" (And also empty till Stoke!)

Would a station in Longsight (Manchester) work?

Seeing how busy the 192s get between the city and Longsight, a station near Asda would be hugely popular. Even if it only takes say 20% of the passengers from the bus, that will still be a very large number. Saying that, if it were to be the existing Manchester - Stockport stopping services...

Rugeley to Stockport via Birmingham: Still Valid?

To be fair, the Railway has lost a customer over this - I used to use this ticket to travel down to the office in Droitwich, however it's now far cheaper (and quicker, more convenient etc) to hire a car, including petrol than pay XC prices. I'd be keen to hear if anyone has any alternative...

Midland Red service 144 Worcester - Birmingham 100 years old

I'm sure that what is now the 144 was known as the 25/125 until 1928, so it hasn't really kept the same number all this time.

Reverting from Mobi theme to forum default

Sorry I've had to resort to posting here, I've tried contacting the admins but have received no response in the last 3 days. There doesn't seem to be a better forum to post this in. I thought it'd be a good idea to switch to the mobile theme. I should never have done this, it's terrible -...

    Metrolink ticket inspection increase?

I use the Bury line about once a month on a Sunday, nearly always get checked. Interestingly a couple of months ago, I got on a MediaCityUK tram at Pic Gardens, inspectors already on the tram stood in the doorways and checked tickets as people got on. It was peak time, nobody was expecting it...

    Stockport - Hereford - Whitchurch - Crewe

Hi, this is a friend who is making the following journey on Monday (29th Sep): 06:39 Stockport - Hereford 11:53 Hereford - Whitchurch (Shropshire) 15:08 Whitchurch - Crewe I just want to double check that the tickets that I've suggested to him are the best option (and are all valid)...
