Why do some tramways use kmph rather than mph?

I now drive trains that have the speeds in kph and I still find myself "translating" in my head back to mph as the higher kph numbers don't "speak" to me in the same way that imperial speeds always have done...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

The on-board computer of class 373s has a physical ABC layout keyboard and it never fails to surprise me just how long it takes me to find letters despite having known the alphabet for about 35 years!

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

Yeah our trains have a DSD built into the power controller but it’s not comfortable to keep it held down so everyone uses the pedal instead, are the M5000 ones quite easy to push down at least?

    Tram Derailment at Bulwell 12/06/2023

I take it trams have a DSD/dead mans handle somehow? Will they adapt that to create a vigilance device or will it be a separate thing?

HS2 captive trains (and special gauge trains generally): diversionary routes & emergency measures?

Yeah sorry I was using the term voltage changeover because that what Eurostar calls it, even though the voltage is the same. 1710784305 They put the pantographs down on the move and the driver just chooses the new setting and then raises them again.

HS2 captive trains (and special gauge trains generally): diversionary routes & emergency measures?

Does this mean HS2 trains will have to perform voltage changeovers on the move as Eurostars do?

Really don’t understand the Rail Staff Travel website

Thanks guys..I don’t think I’ll ever understand railway ticketing… So normally when I just go from Chelmsford to London Liv Street they’re very strict on super off peak, and if I were to get a 0857 service just to London then a Super Off Peak would absolutely not be valid… but it would be in...

Really don’t understand the Rail Staff Travel website

So I now have access to a PRIV for the first time… I am just trying to work this site out, and was looking at tickets from Chelmsford to Chepstow (just theoretical for now while I get to grips with it) So it seems I have selected a super off peak return… but then it is saying I can reserve...

    Eurostar E300 replacements?

Listening to the internal rumour machine I’d be quite surprised if we end up with any more Siemens units but never say never!

    Eurostar E300 replacements?

They’re absolutely knackered, no way will they be seeing passenger service again sadly (or not sadly for those of us who dislike them intently)

What are you meant to claim/do if your train is cancelled and you get a different one to a different destination?

They are refunding me almost the whole cost of the ticket so yes it was well worth an email :D

    Sounding the horn……??

We’re also not allowed to use the horn in the main shed of our depot. When the engineers want to test a horn they have to make an announcement over the tannoy to warn people.
