Stena Line sailing in gale force winds?

I don’t think wind speed will have any effect on ships at sea. What I believe is difficult is mooring up. Wind direction may also have an influence on what can and can not be done. So, you may find that, a force 10 westerly gale will see shops cancelled but a force 10 southerly may not affect them

Interrail Traveling to (and from) St Pancras

Not entirely true. I personally have challenged (and subsequently sold new tickets to) two Interrail users - both with UK passports - who were very clearly using their Interrail passes as U.K. All Line Rover tickets and having a jolly all over England

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

So what happens if I borrow your power bank and charging lead and it snaps off in my phone - damaging it? Who's going to pay for a repair or new phone? In today's risk averse society - I wouldn't risk using my own power bank/charging cable unless it had been approved by my employer

    LNER crew rosters.

Do LNER crews normally work together from staff of the same depot? So Leeds drivers always work with Leeds train managers or is there a mixture

Unpaid fare notice from TransPennine for honest mistake which only caused inconvenience for me

It's a difficult situation. People do make mistakes but people also try to "pull a fast one". Strictly speaking you need to have a ticket for the journey you are making. If you caught the wrong train, or fell asleep and missed your stop for example, then, in many respects, it's only right that...

    ICN 1963 2010 Milan-1432 Catania

I travelled on the 2150 sleeper from Milan to Bari last year. The train arrived into the platform 20 minutes before departure. Breakfast was a coffee, orange juice and a pastry. See picture. A "can" of water was provided. I'd buy a bottle (or two) from a local supermarket

Proof of Travel - LNER Barcode Tickets

If you manage to get a person to scan the ticket now - which will show usage - then the person scanning the ticket now will also be logged as scanning it. Will that incriminate this person

    FIP coupons in Belgium

There's no reservation fee for IC trains in Belgium. it's not even possible to reserve seats. Just fill out the date on your coupon and enjoy Belgium. However, avoid Thalys trains - they have compulsory reservations and the fees are quite high - however Thalys don't run trains to the...

    RMT strike referendum passed

What I find interestin is the % of people at each TOC who voted "no" https://www.rmt.org.uk/news/members-updates/defend-jobs-pay-and-conditions-tocs301123/?preview=true Its probably an average of 10% - but at TPE and Avanti it's closer to 20%. Why so high at these two TOC's. And, the question...

    Platform allocations

I'm interested who is responsible for allocating platforms for trains at short notice. Let's pick a TOC operated station (rather than a Network Rail operated one) - I'll pick Doncaster Departing from platform 4 is the 1210 to Edinburgh and the 1240 to Cleethorpes. The Edinburgh train has been...

Conductor / Guard Dispatch in Europe

In the U.K. the guard will “give two” on the buzzer to tell the driver that they are ready to depart. In Belgium I’ve seen the guard use a key in a device on the platform and then quickly board the train. Is the bell/buzzer unique to the UK? What systems are in use in other countries .
