Beyond Headbolt Lane: could we see further extensions to Skelmersdale/Rainford?

For a 15 min interval yes, but the layout at Headbolt Lane is designed for 30 min interval towards Skem/Wigan and 30 min for Headbolt into what in effect becomes a bay platform which gives HBL a 15 min service.

    Alicante to Valencia

There is progress on the airport link. Route has been announced and work is starting in the next 12 months. The airport station already exists as it was built into the new terminal when that was built. If you use the lifts in the airport you'll notice the floors are numbered 2, 1, 0, -2...

    I think 2027 rings a bell.

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

It was a cost saving decision by Merseytravel and is also a cost effective way of proving the technology works for future, longer extensions. Don't forget upto 60 additional units are still available as an option to provide stock for said extensions.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

The third rail is only being removed along the platform length at Kirkby....not all the way to Fazakerley. Any train issue that involves issues reaching Kirkby would be the same if the third rail was there or not. Passengers would just catch the next train or be bussed as happens now.

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

The station has passive provision for a footbridge and lifts already.

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

Yes but they wouldn't have spent all the extra money in the mean time. It would have been left as passive provision.....like the space left for a footbridge on the new platforms

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

Yes it was. Also if it was operationally feasible to turn around within a reliable timescale they wouldn't have specified it as a 3 platform setup.

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

Anybody taking photos of this weekend's work? They should be reconnecting the rails through the bridge this weekend for the first time in 46 years.

Potential Merseyrail expansion beyond Headbolt Lane and/or timetable improvements

The layout is done in such a way that the up platform will, in effect, become a bay if the line is extended to Wigan/Skem. You'd have a 30 minute service pattern to either Kirkby terminating in this platform or 30 minutes to Wigan/Skem without having to redouble towards Rainford. This way...

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

When extended it will be a two platform arrangement. There's passive provision for a lift/bridge combo.

Experiences on Orihuela to Mercia trains

Firstly why would you ask for a beautiful to Murcia? Secondly. The Iberian guage line is walk up to buy and really cheap. If you're planning to do it on a regular basis you can actually get unlimited trips for an admin fee of 20€ - this is refunded if you make 16 journeys within three months...

How did station staff and signalmen keep themselves occupied in between trains on quiet branch lines?

I spent lot of time in Kensington Olympia signal box in the early 90s and judging by the stacks of "gentleman's interest" magazines on the shelves...... probably indulging in some self love.

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

Here's a video I took on the way to Manchester last week. The track has been realigned to the one side now in preparation for the second line to be laid. Interestingly the old Old County Road bridge is now seeing trains running over the previously disused side of the span.
