    Routeing Southampton-Leeds via Cheshire

Looks like I might be able to get a lift from Leeds to Cheshire, so I think I'm looking at: Southampton-Cottingley SSR(via London) at £136 (same cost as SOU-LDS, so expenses shouldn't have a problem with it) and will get me to Leeds via the ECML With a single HTF-CRE, I should be good to...

    Routeing Southampton-Leeds via Cheshire

I will be spending three days in Leeds, so I assume I'll need something else on top of the Cottingley ticket to finish the job?

    Routeing Southampton-Leeds via Cheshire

Thanks for the feedback so far. For reference, the Southampton-Leeds return will be covered by expenses, so I'm not looking for advance fares on that route. I'm mostly looking to see how cost-effective it is to make that BoJ on the return leg. I'm pretty confident that I can just go via...

    Routeing Southampton-Leeds via Cheshire

Hello, I'm planning on making a trip from Southampton to Leeds in a little over a week. I would prefer to go via London, but can go via CrossCountry if necessary. The catch is I'd like to break my return journey in Cheshire, stopping somewhere like Cuddington, Hartford or Frodsham, so I'm...

AMTRAK Train derailed in Philidelphia USA

I read an article this morning (which, irritatingly, I can't find again now) that said that whilst there are speed enforcement systems in-place on sections of the line, this was not one of them.

Battery powered Electrostar to go into passenger carrying trials

Sadly the laws of physics make this an impossibility. In essence, you certainly *could* use some of the train's motion to recharge the batteries, but you would get less energy back than the extra you would have to expend to run the dynamos in the first place. Things like regenerative braking...

    Meridians post-electrification

That's actually about the only other use I could think of for them. Unless Grand Central, or some other OA TOC, takes them and frees up the 180s for Wales.

    Meridians post-electrification

If the 222s are to come off the MML, about the only really sensible use I can think of for them is to strengthen the XC fleet. There are still services ran by single 4- and 5-car Voyagers that could benefit from running two units instead of one. You could conceivably also then cascade some...

    Mid-distance mainline electrics

Oh, sorry about that. That's the given name for the IEP trains, the Hitachi "Super Express Train" -- I thought we were all calling it SET now. Maybe I should just stick to calling it IEP. :D That's not strictly true. They have micro-buffets in the TSRMB vehicle, however despite travelling on...

    Mid-distance mainline electrics

If SET sets are competitive enough in the marketplace, I could see them appearing on the GEML as well. They may be somewhat overkill for that line, but their inter-compatibility with the rest of the SET fleet might be enough, so long as the price is right.

Oh dear. It looks like Dollis Hill for me, too then. Not like I have much choice.

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

What freight is going to go on HS2? I thought all the paths were used for passenger trains...

Nidd? That's unfortunate. I shall indulge myself in a little pointless DLR play with Surrey Quays. At least I can claim an aqua token for the privilege.

I particularly like the look of those suspiciously loco-hauled regional train services at the left of that diagram!

    Mornington Crescent

Ooh, this is getting rather tricksy. I think it'll have to be Caledonian Road. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place...

Paying the two black token late penalty, I shall start at Hainault

The best fix there is to minimise the ability to do that by isolating the cockpit from the passenger saloon as much as possible. That may be problematic on existing aircraft, but certainly new ones should be built with this in mind.

Virgin 1st Class- "Little box of Snacks"

I must admit, I've found VT's first class offerings to be pretty variable. On my last trip, I was provided with two cups of coffee and a bacon bap. The previous time, I spent the whole journey being offered stuff. Two or three coffees, a couple of sandwiches, some snacks and a cake, a glass...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

Not average load factors though. Even with HS2, there are going to be contra-peak services, and less popular travel times.

Is it possible to couple Desiro classes 450 & 444?

I should expect so, given the 350/1s are just converted 450s in the first place!
