If announcements are prerecorded why not get them right?

There's also a lot of other places in Norfolk that can throw people off with the pronunciation. Happisburgh is one example: an American would think Happis-BURRG (with the -burgh like in Pittsburgh, PA, as opposed to Edinburgh), but the place is actually pronounced 'Haysborough' ('haze-bruh') by...

If announcements are prerecorded why not get them right?

I myself can do it. The double-L was rather tricky at first, but got better after a few attempts.

If announcements are prerecorded why not get them right?

Because Welsh contains phonemes that don't exist in English, especially the double-L, which uses a sound that's extremely uncommon in European languages, but not really that difficult to master if you can get the tongue placement correct.

    Britain's noisiest trains

I'd hate to imagine how scary an ABB would sound when passing an OHNS compared to the loud VCBs on modern EMU/BMMUs!

    Britain's noisiest trains

Electrostars when under AC and sitting directly underneath the pan while passing an OHNS. That loud VCB thump is loud enough to make people jump and be caught off guard.

    GWR Class 800

I also prefer the IETs, largely because I'm an advocate for electrification, and as someone who lives near the B&H and always uses the GWML in the electrified areas to PAD, they're a massive improvement, along with the 387s.

    What is Neutral Section, please?

Usually very short, with approximately a carriage length or two between APC magnets. Some, such as the Maidenhead OHNS on the GWML, are of the long carrier wire type, which necessitate subsidiary signs underneath the OHLE entrance sign that say "LONG" to signify that the OHNS is longer than the...

    GWR Class 800

I was very surprised as I thought that all new builds would have turbojet dryers by now.

    GWR Class 800

I've had worse on the Turbos, though mind you, it was on the units that have yet to receive PRM-TSI compliant lavatories.

    GWR Class 800

It's not impossible. The Ayrshire Coast Line on the Saltcoats section is electrified along the sea wall, but it necessitated more substantial OHLE that could withstand seawater, so the possibility is still there. I didn't like how shallow the sink was, and the hand dryers were surprisingly not...

    GWR Class 800

Been on 2 800s today between RDG-PAD, and both were running electric as I saw the pans up, and on the RDG-PAD service, due to the train being standing room-only, I stood directly below the pan in the vestibule area of the leading DTPS and heard the loud VCB thump passing the Maidenhead OHNS, so...

    Great Western Electrification Progress

So does that mean that the line will go electric ahead of schedule?

Trivia: Railway Stations in two different counties?

Although not strictly speaking the same as being between two boundaries, Ashford (Middlesex/Surrey) lies within both the historical county of Middlesex and the modern-day Spelthorne Borough of the post-1965 administrative county of Surrey.

Box Tunnel, track lowering, would 3rd rail not have been better?

Not to mention requiring the Class 800/801s to have extra equipment and shoegear for operating on 3rd rail, and also, safety implications of 3rd rail types that are not bottom contact like on the DLR, e.g. SR/Merseyrail-style top contact.

Would that mean compatibility with Continental pantographs?

    SWT quiz guard

In all honesty, it's at least showing a more human side to guards as opposed to the more "corporate drone/minion" mentality that's often prevalent in today's society.

Will all stock on the GWML and ECML be upgraded to use ERTMS?

The Class 800/801/80x and 345 will be ready from the onset, though I'd expect the 365s and 387s will need ETCS equipment retrofitting, which would involve having to reconfigure the cabs to accommodate the associated CDUs and buttons, and having to find the space to install the electronics, but...

    Logo Query

It looks so much like a Triforce. For those unfamiliar with the reference, it's a prominent symbol found in the Zelda video games.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine in sleeper compartment

I've used my iPhone charger on a Pendolino and a Mk4 IC225 TSO and the charger was still operative when passing a neutral section, though I've had it go off on a Eurostar and an ICE3M while it passed one, and during the AC/DC changeover. It depends mostly on how the auxiliaries are powered.
