Trainee Train Driver - Virgin Trains East Coast

Well, reading through some of the more recent posts, this seems like a complete shambles now! Contradictory emails flying around. I took the checking test on 27th October and heard nothing since. Has anyone who completed the checking test actually heard anything further from VTEC?

Trainee Train Driver - Virgin Trains East Coast

I couldn't find anything like the actual test to practice beforehand, only one or two sample questions. But..... when you actually follow the link to take the test you can have one complete run through in practice mode.

Trainee Train Driver - Virgin Trains East Coast

Well, I've just completed the online tests. That was intense to say the least! I'm hoping it's the kind of thing nobody can complete 100% correctly unless they're Rainman :D --- old post above --- --- new post below --- On a side issue... Does anyone know what sort of turns the VTEC Doncaster...

South West Trains - Assessment day pt 1

Hi Dave, Yeah, I found it quite intense. 1 hour of constant questioning! First, you have about 20 mins to write down examples of when you've done this that and the other, then the grilling. I can't remember the topics off hand but there are threads on here with them listed. Can't...

South West Trains - Assessment day pt 1

Just signed back on to the forum after a few months away... I too applied for Farnham (I'm flexible and could do Basingstoke or Salisbury as well but SWT's system does not seem to allow room for that!). I passed all the tests back in January and February and then tripped up on the 'Structured...

FCC Trainee train driver assessment and interview

Well done on getting as far as that :D As for me, I applied at the same time you did and I'm still "awaiting shortlisting"!!! I applied for Peterborough. How about you? I wonder if no news is good news or perhaps I'm in a reserve list of some sort. Anyone got any ideas? :|

    Group Bourdon

Don't worry too much. I only got 8 rows down each sheet and I passed. My accuracy was pretty good though. I think they may weight the results to allow for age. You state your age at the start and I can't think of another reason for doing that. I'm 44 by the way :D

    Driver assessments transferable?

I failed the Structured Interview. What I meant was, SWT won't make me do the other tests again (TRP 1&2, Group Bourdon, Reaction and RVCE). They say those passes are valid for three years. My question is, will other TOCs, and in particular FCC, recognise my passes in these tests too?

    Driver assessments transferable?

A simple question I hope! I have passed most of the driver assessments with SWT. I narrowly failed the Structured Interview and have been told I can go back in six months and try it again. In the mean time I have another application "Awaiting Shortlisting" with FCC. Would FCC recognise the...

    SWT Driver Manager Interview

Thanks guys. I failed just one section, the emergency situation. Apparently, I didn't provide enough evidence that I had taken control. Difficult because paramedics took control! I'll think of a better example next time. I've had feedback and know how to tackle it next time round, I think. I...

It's a message from a driver. Their train has been in collision with a car at a level crossing...

It's a message from a driver. Their train has been in collision with a car at a level crossing. There is a fair bit of irrelevant stuff. Speculation about how the car got there etc. I just concentrated on the emergency aspect and kept in all the stuff I thought was important (location, injuries...

    SWT Driver Manager Interview

Well, Friday was an interesting day! I got fed up with waiting and rang SWT to find out what the outcome of my Structured Interview was. I was told I'd passed and thought "great!". Ten minutes later, they called me back to say that I'd been given the wrong information and that I'd actually...

Dress code - interview for internal non-uniformed job

Full suit, tie and smart (shiny) shoes every time! If your interviewer is dressed less smartly it's not a problem, it just shows you made an effort with your appearance and care about the outcome.

    Travel distance

I've applied for Trainee Driver on SWT even though I currently live in the East Midlands. I'm willing to relocate and made it very clear on my application that I was! It hasn't put them off so far. I'm waiting to hear the result of my structured interview  Their system doesn't allow...

    Colour vision

I don't know. Perhaps something akin to dyslexia, as in an inability to process the image made up of different sized circles? I don't mean my comments to be controversial. I just find it fascinating that a small number of people are failing this test and can pass an alternative one. Until...

    Colour vision

WSW - I passed the Ishihara test recenty without a problem. I'm just curious as to why you can't pass it as you have normal colour vision. What's stopping you passing Ishihara I wonder?

    SWT Driver Manager Interview

Thanks for the tips guys. I still haven't heard about the structured interview I had on the 14th (which was the most pressured interview I've ever had I think, including officer selection for the RAF!). I'm hoping my application is on a pile marked "pass - arrange final interview" but who knows...

    SWT Driver Manager Interview

Hi all. I'm struggling through the assessments for Trainee Driver... I completed and passed the verbal comms exercise and reaction tests a few days ago and had a "Criteria Based Interview" (also known as a structured interview I think) later the same day. I'm waiting to hear the result of that...

    Laser eye surgery and driving

If it helps the SWT line in this is: "Applicants who have previously undergone laser eye surgery will be subject to additional investigations before fitness to drive trains can be confirmed - please contact the occupational health department for further information."

    SWT "Criteria Based Interview"

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. So far I've passed the TRP parts 1 and 2 and the concentration test (Group Bourdon). I believe SWT have dropped the Mechanical Comprehension thing so I can't help there I'm afraid. I don't know anything about the fault finding test either unless it's...
