I chose not to board the train at the nearest door and it left without me

But then some posters wouldn't have anything to be annoyed about this evening :(

I chose not to board the train at the nearest door and it left without me

That seems to be the consensus. I'll look more alive next time. I was still pressing the open button as the train started moving but didn't have my nose against it so it wasn't dangerous. Edit: I'm not convinced that walking from one set of doors to the next is incomprehensible passenger...

I chose not to board the train at the nearest door and it left without me

Evening all, I'd be interested in the collective view on whether I was shafted/treated less than ideally/got what I deserved. Last night, I was waiting for the final train from Hither Green to Charing Cross - I think it was due about 23:38 but turned up a few minutes late. I was standing at...

Ticket machine would not offer Group Save

Ah, that explains it. Is there a reason for this other than to discourage sales of group tickets?

Ticket machine would not offer Group Save

I was travelling one-way from Lewes to Victoria yesterday (Sunday) on Southern with three friends. I went to the ticket machine, picked the route and changed the number of adult passengers to four. The cheapest fare available was £17.80 x 4 (the usual cheapest off peak price). I did check...

Major new electrification projects to be anounced shortly

Have they announced which stations will be getting improvement works? Or will NR decide how to spend the £100m later?

    Spotters dicing with death

I never imagined that anyone would get excited about a train's horn. What a bunch of insufferable nerds.

    False platforms

The Catford Loop up platform at Brixton is still partially accessible and reasonably well-maintained; it even had some public artwork installed in the mid-80s, about 60 years after it closed.

Waterloo Station - What New Shops?

Damn, fair bit of snobbery in this thread. Sometimes you need to eat and a £1.30 double cheeseburger is just the ticket.

Jumping in front of a train or not

Does anyone know what offence, if any, is committed by pretending to jump in front of a train?

London Bridge - future track layout alterations

Ah, OK. I don't know if they're planning to run any 12 cars through E&C, but even an 8-car 319 is about 160m. Presumably trains aren't allowed to touch bumpers regardless of how good the signalling is.

London Bridge - future track layout alterations

That makes sense. I see from the diagram that there will be two signals between the crossover to the converted siding and the junction to LBG, so they'll be able to stack two E&C trains in there without delaying LBG trains. I wonder if all southbound LBG trains will run via the converted siding...

London Bridge - future track layout alterations

Thanks, that's an informative doc. It's interesting that the siding south of Blackfriars is being turned into a running line - does anyone know what the reasoning is?

DfT Consultation on TL/GN/SN Combined Franchise

This quote from the consultation doc suggests there will be long distance trains going via HH after 2018: A few Brighton trains already go via HH during the peaks; this will go up to four tph all day during London Bridge's closure. If that capacity is handed over to Thameslink Kent services in...

DfT Consultation on TL/GN/SN Combined Franchise

Oh dear. The 2011 RUS said the capacity through Herne Hill's junctions used by Brighton trains would be turned over to local services once all Thameslink 'mainline' trains were running via London Bridge, but if they're actually going to keep running long distance (and presumably 12 car) trains...

    City Thameslink OHLE

Out of interest, why don't the City want steel work put into the tunnel?

TfL to bid for Southeastern and Anglia franchises?

I believe the proposed Vic-Bromley South off-peak service will go via the Catford Loop (TfL identified it as a possibility a few years ago), so it wouldn't be competing for space with the Orpington services until it hit Shortlands Junction.

Converting a terminus station into a through one

Ludgate Hill was built as part of the LCDR's City Branch from Herne Hill to Farringdon, so it was a terminus before Snow Hill tunnel opened but was always laid out for through running. The same was true of Elephant & Castle and Blackfriars Bridge, which both briefly served as the City Branch's...

    Wikipedia

Aye, nothing less than a published source or a reliable website (the definition of which varies; I've found that the websites of well-known railway societies are acceptable) will do. I wrote the article on Herne Hill railway station and almost every sentence had to be referenced to pass peer...

    Thameslink Programme progress

It was just a computer screw-up. Platform 5 was taken out of use during the initial stages of the Thameslink Programme and later demolished.
