GWR no longer selling advance tickets on peak trains?

As of January 2019, GWR have stopped selling standard-class advance singles on the peak 07.06 train from Stroud to London Paddington, for any services no matter how far ahead. The passenger must now pay the full £82.50 anytime single price, or travel on the 06.30 or 08.06 instead. I asked GWR...

    Train leaving early?

Thank you @yorkie and @ForTheLoveOf! I wrote to GWR and they agreed that yes, it had departed early. And since the next train was the 9.08, so I was delayed more than an hour, they also refunded the cost of my ticket :)

    Train leaving early?

And: even if doors close early, surely the train shouldn't actually leave the station early?

    Train leaving early?

Do you know where GWR actually tell people that? I can't find anything online.

    Train leaving early?

I just arrived at Stroud station to catch the 08.06 to Paddington and it left early. I'm not sure exactly when the doors were locked, but it was already pulling out of the station at 08:05:46. Is it worth flagging this up to the train company, or are trains allowed to leave early these days? I...

Legislation on requirement to sell cheapest fares?

Thanks all. I was sure I'd read in the newspapers that clerks were obliged by law to sell the cheapest fare available for the passenger's journey destination and time. However, perhaps this isn't the case?

Legislation on requirement to sell cheapest fares?

Great thanks! Any idea which section? Thought I might find it in "RESTRICTIONS ON THE SALE OF FARES" in Main Agreement but can't see anything in there. Searching for "cheapest", "lower price", "clerks" etc doesn't bring anything up either... Probably just being dim.

Legislation on requirement to sell cheapest fares?

Hi all Can anyone provide a link to the legislation, or regulation, that requires ticket clerks to sell the cheapest fares available for a particular journey? Just interested in reading the underlying legislation, can't find it on the internet. Thanks!

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

There are two different issues here: 1. Trains that close their doors 40 seconds or a minute before advertised departure time, but do leave the station at the advertised time. 2. Trains that actually leave the station before the advertised departure time - as in the 19.40 Euston train I...

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

Thanks to all those who gave constructive feedback. I think if you surveyed average passengers, most would be very surprised to know that: 1) You may not be allowed on a train if you're not on it 40 seconds before the departure time printed on your ticket 2) The 19.40 at Euston is...

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

Yep, I think there are posters. I've never read them though, and I bet millions (literally) of other passengers haven't either. It'd just be helpful to have this on booking confirmation webpages, emails, flagged up on train company websites, etc.

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

I've never noticed these posters at Virgin stations, although perhaps I'm just extremely unobservant (well, clearly I am, I've just demonstrated it). But I bet lots of other passengers are too, and half the folk who argue just don't know about the rule.

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

That sounds completely reasonable :) But I do wonder if train companies could communicate the 40-second rule better to passengers. I travel once or twice a week on the Virgin west coast main line, and consider myself a reasonably well-informed person, and yet until this thread I literally had...

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

Thanks all, I didn't mean to re-open a can of worms. I did a Google for "leaving early" on railforums.co.uk before I wrote and didn't see many other relevant discussions - links would be appreciated! I would take issue with one thing though. I don't agree that the 40-second rule is widely...

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

    > 19:40 is the time the train pulls away from the station, not the last time possible to board it. Except 19:40 is not the time the train pulls away from the station! The train pulled away at 19:39 and 30 seconds. Two questions: 1. Why not just call the train the 19.38, if it's...

    Virgin trains leaving Euston early?

Hello, I'm new to these forums and don't know loads about the railway system so please be gentle :) I've just got on the 19.40 Virgin Trains service from London Euston to Manchester, and it left early. The train started moving at approximately 19.39 and 30 seconds - the guard had blown...
