Euston overcrowding at TfL/LU entrance caused by new Network Rail departure boards

It does seem like those responsible for Euston station seem to want to find every possible way of making the station as awful to use as possible. I agree with all the points made.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

All fair points, in particular Southern getting extra 377s - though they did lose the 456s and 442s. Perhaps the only conclusion we can draw is that it’s all very complex and difficult to make comparisons! Agreed with how things have panned out with the 700s. You can get a 700/0 from Kings Lynn...

Distance of Structures on a Line

Out of interest, would you be able to give a bit more detail on the latter? I have bridge registers for much of Britain, but pretty much nothing for Scotland, and have been hunting same or similar for some while. My interest lies mainly with closed lines.

Am I understanding the above then that Bedford - Three Bridges hasn’t really released any Southern stock, being that there’s a new Southern service to Reigate in there? Covid certainly muddies the water, however there does seem to be a presumption that the significant extra capacity provided by...

Even if the availability was better I don’t think there’s enough units, without removing some from a different TL service. Rainham seems to have swallowed up the Maidstone units. I guess it might be possible to trim this back to Kentish Town, though risky from a loadings point of view.

This is an interesting point. If one thinks about the 2018 Thameslink changes, we now have * Horsham to Peterborough replaces Victoria to Horsham * Arguably Cambridge to Brighton seems to have replaced Victoria to Brighton, though this doesn’t seem to have been the original plan? * Bedford to...

Class 165 on service to Great Malvern

Have to say from an ambience point of view it wouldn’t bother me at all. The short length might though, especially if just a 2 or 3 car.

On the latter point, no. Everything north of Cambridge is 8-car nowadays. However a small handful of peak service attach or detach a unit at Cambridge to make 12 cars between Cambridge and London. The current timetable is pretty efficient in that they have managed to arrange things so there...

    Bakerloo Line Refurb?

Agree. This shows that TFL may well be very good at making political statements (for example naming Overground lines in a blatantly political way), but aren’t so good at what they are actually meant to be doing which is delivering a transport service. There is no excuse for this having dragged...

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

I get the feeling Euston is one of those places, like Blackpool North, where the station is something of a dump to work at, so staff have essentially imposed their own way of working, and management don’t want to rock the boat.

"Please avoid using any third party applications"

Changing platforms in this way wouldn’t really solve any issues, as it’s still going to show up on apps.

"Please avoid using any third party applications"

Of course there’s no *need*. However it’s a lot more comfortable to wait on a train than a platform or concourse, and allows productive use of the time. The railway’s preference for people not doing it centres around “it makes life harder for us”, which isn’t really what should be being aspired...

We are all making the assumption that they will enter GN service in their current state! Has anything been officially stated about this?

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

This may be the case, however the fact is in May 2018 Letchworth was routinely stabling nine 6 or 8 car trains trains, when now the long-term plan has only six. What has changed in that time is the loss of the Baldock services and of course the 365s. The original question about stabling space...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

This isn’t the case. Currently 5R01 is 8/700 and 5R03 is 8/387. This just leaves 5T02 which is 8/387. Everything else out of Letchworth is 717. 2T00 comes from Cambridge sidings. Same in the forthcoming timetable as well. LNER only stable 2 or 3 trains there. Certainly not the whole station...

"Please avoid using any third party applications"

In the latter case, should anyone care about Mr Angry? As it happens, I got caught out at King’s Cross just last night by a unit swap, and ended up on the wrong train. The information was there, had I looked for it, but to be fair I was a bit distracted by other issues so didn’t double check...

Reopening to Padstow would generate more traffic than reopening Tavistock-Okehampton

Was Padstow such a popular day trip destination then? There’s a lot less there than at St Ives.

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

With the rider that this is from memory, IIRC in 2018 Letchworth was stabling 2x 8/700 3x 8/365 1x 8/387 3x 6/313 In the current timetable I think it is 1x 8/700 2x 8/387 3x 6/717 So I make that 3x 8-car berths unused. In the case of King’s Cross, is there any reason why the main platforms...

    Great Northern Fleet Tender

Remember that GN has more than 29 387s as of now. There’s an extra 10 units, made up of one 387/2, the six LTS units, and three GWR units. Presumably one of those is covering ETCS. Agreed. 1710368896 On the latter point, kind of. There’s certainly spare berths at Letchworth and Peterborough...

Why does Okehampton - Bere Alston get all the attention, when the case is stronger for reopening to Bideford?

Why wouldn’t Bideford be well served? I know the old site is on the wrong side of the water, but it really isn’t that remote from the town centre.
