    Oxford Bus Company/Thames Travel

More great local info, thank you. It's very encouraging to hear that services in the area have improved rather than declined in recent years.

    Oxford Bus Company/Thames Travel

Thanks again, it is fascinating to know the history of these things, as it is often nigh impossible to learn this without finding individuals who can share their recollections. I must admit I was mistaken earlier when I wrote that Sutton Courtenay's services do not extend into the evening on...

    Oxford Bus Company/Thames Travel

Amazing info much appreciated, thank you very much! I'm coming from the Go South Coast area where I generally hold a positive opinion of my local operator More, so I would be pleased to have the services of another Go-Ahead company. I have noted that Sutton Courtenay conversely seems to have a...

    Oxford Bus Company/Thames Travel

Hello thread, I'm wondering if anybody could tell me whether the disproportionately good bus service X2/NX2 enjoyed by the villages of Drayton and Steventon has been a stable long-term fixture over the years? I ask because I'm looking at moving to South Oxfordshire. Thanks!

    Southwest England non-linear journey puzzle

That's great! Thank you! I found that there were advance fares available for GIL-EXD and EXD-SAL that totalled £26.60 (not sure if they're still available), which together with the £5.50 Exmouth day return made £32.10, but to have flexible travel for only 80p more is fantastic.

    Southwest England non-linear journey puzzle

If anybody enjoys these puzzles, then here is mine for today. I have a Network Railcard. My itinerary is as follows: Sat 28/5 - Gillingham (Dorset) to Exeter St. David's - after validity begins for Super Off-Peak (12pm); Network Railcard is valid all day Sat 28/5 - Exeter St. David's to...

    Woking to Heathrow RailAir bus

That's great, good timing as the date I'm hoping to use it is only 10 days later! Many thanks again!

    Woking to Heathrow RailAir bus

Sorry, I was looking for a good "official" source for the information (i.e. without having to ask insiders on this forum) rather than for you to give me an exact date yourself, but thank you all the same!

    Woking to Heathrow RailAir bus

Legend, thank you. I am grateful to my inner voice of doubt on this occasion! I wish it were possible to get reliable information on this from the actual operators of the service... Edit: On that note, do you know of anywhere other than this forum where I could expect to reliably find out when...

    Woking to Heathrow RailAir bus

Hello, does anybody know (ideally from first-hand knowledge) whether this is currently running? I have asked both SWR and NX (who operate it) and they both gave generic-sounding answers linking to this page, which has left me with a tinge of doubt, as the journey planner and route maps on the...

South Western Railway - a mixed start to life as a TOC?

Oh cool, good to know they're still a thing.

South Western Railway - a mixed start to life as a TOC?

I'm interested in the promo fares you mention... I saw an ad on Facebook for the "kids travel for £1 all summer" promotion (https://www.southwesternrailway.com/destinations-and-offers/offers/livebig) and was disappointed as I assume this replaces the "cheap singles for everyone" promotions we...

Question about drivers in current Northern/GTR disruption

I've been following the news reports about the extensive disruption affecting Northern and GTR since their major timetable changes, and I gather that the main cause for the disruption is that many drivers had not yet finished training for the new routes, by no fault of their own, so they can't...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

This is hypothetical at the moment as my flight, if I were to book it, would be further in the future, but let's say it's Monday 22nd January and I have to be at terminal 5 by 08:50. The return journey should depart Friday 26th January after 22:30. (I realise I've just thrown "off-peak" out of...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

Your first suggestion probably wins this thread. I can do Bournemouth to East Croydon for £32.60 via Barnham, plus two times £2.80 for the contactless fare from East Croydon to Feltham and two times £1.50 for the bus fare, and I end up with £41.20, which shaves over a third off my original...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

That helps a little, but the Off-Peak Return is only £40.30 to begin with, with the RailAir ticket then adding a hefty £26.50 on top of that (although it seems you can get an early bird ticket over 60 days in advance for £15.50, so add that to your £36 and you get £51.50, which is indeed a...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

The Off-Peak Return fare for that is £67.30 and it also takes a bit longer than via Woking. Having said that, is a "split" possible between the bus fare and the train fare - I had always assumed not and that the RailAir journey had to be bought as part of a train fare? (Edit: Just checked and...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

I had assumed that the coach to Heathrow would be slower than rail as it often is, but in fact it takes around 2h20m, about the same as the rail+bus journey. Bournemouth to Gatwick on the other hand is 3h40m by coach on the fastest journeys, which is over an hour longer than it takes by rail.

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

Yeah that's the one I was referring to, and that £36 is one-way only, so double it to cover both legs and you end up with about the same price as the rail fare. The Off-Peak Return from Bournemouth to Gatwick Airport via Barnham is only £28.30, which seems like a steal in comparison...

    Bournemouth to Heathrow Airport

Hi there, Curious about this one, as the price of an undiscounted Off-Peak Return via Woking and the RailAir bus is £68.20, which is around £10 more than the same ticket from Bournemouth to London Terminals. I also notice that the equivalent journey with National Express is almost exactly the...
