    Discount on my Oyster card

It would be useful if the app or ticket machines showed the discount applied. I have a disabled railcard. The railcard that was added in error was a National railcard. I only noticed something was amiss when a particular journey seemed to be usually high. I think something to do with different...

    Contactless ticket query

But if you have a railcard, you should get an Oyster card and have your railcard discount added to the Oyster card, by asking an assistant at the ticket machines.

Return tickets when journey partly cancelled

I wanted an off peak return. When I got to station B, I found there were replacement buses laid on, but they were not shown on the rail planner. So just really wasted the cost of a bus fare. I know I can use the ticket on any off peak trains. Just worried that it might be packed. It wasn’t...

Return tickets when journey partly cancelled

Does anyone know how to buy an return ticket when a train is partly cancelled. I wanted an off peak return between A and C via B. The price is the same for A to C as for B to C. In the past I would just go to a station and buy a return ticket but station A is not manned and B needs a car...

    ECML fare war woes

If you use the TPE app you get different fares depending on whether you specify “Return” or “Open Return”. Not unexpected because you expect advance tickets might be cheaper, but actually these tickets may prove cheaper and are only revealed if you choose “Open Return”.

Why doesn't Northern's Windermere service stop at Lancaster?

Will this be the first time that Platform 3 has had an electric train since it was electrified as the start of the aborted Windermere electrification?

    Amsterdam Eurostar

There are three city transport ticket machines in Central station at the middle entrance but they are pretty erratic and especially choosy about acceptance of UK cards.

    Special Offers Discussion

Bit miffed. Just bought a ticket covered by the promotion, not knowing about it. The Northern App did not automatically apply the discount. You’ve got to enter the promotional code, if you know it. The promotion is probably a response to the timetable crisis last year but seems to be designed...

Virgin West Coast Open Access Application

It a way it mirrors Stagecoach tactics in the bus industry in the 1980s that led to the end of municipal bus corporations and Stagecoach’s dominance.

LNER disruption due to damaged pantographs - 16/04 - Any information on what's happened?

But what if by the time you were due to travel the disruption had largely stopped. My situation. I had advance LNER tickets. It was for the last train of the day. I became aware of the disruption and so was a little worried. When I looked at the LNER and NR sites it said you could travel...

    Validity of Disabled Railcard

I too have neither a battery book nor a card. I sent them copies of the relevant letters that I had about my aid, and they were accepted as evidence.

TPE Club55 - Advice on how to purchase the ticket

On the question of lack of buttons. I didn't have them too. If I used a different browser they appeared. I think the problem was with Internet Explorer but it was OK with Chrome.

TPE Club55 - Advice on how to purchase the ticket

It is impossible to buy online a Club 55 ticket between Newcastle and Lancaster. It may be the same with Preston. The problem is caused by changes made to the National Routeing Guide a few years ago. The permitted route between Newcastle and Lancaster was via Carlisle or Manchester. The via...

    Special Offers Discussion

I got the email to an address/account I haven't used for ages - set up when problems with my usual account. No email received to my usual account; nor has a friend who buys most of his tickets through VTEC. When I looked for sale tickets with the rarely used account, there were many sale...

Stops to set down/pick up only

The last three Virgin East Coast departures are set down only for part of the journey (2200, 2257 & 2330). I needed to use one for Darlington to Newcastle, after a late running Ken Dodd show. No problem despite worry that I would be prevented and spend the night on Darlington station. I suppose...

    Special Offers Discussion

I was once delayed on a connection to Carlisle and had an Northern advance to Newcastle. I missed the booked train. You are allowed to get the next train of the same company. The next train was a Scotrail service and it said "Scotrail" on the display screens too. The station staff said I could...

Would a Greater Manchester franchise be a good idea?

They'll probably convert all more lines in GM to trams and you'll have to change near the boundary like on Merseyrail at Ormskirk and Kirby.

TPE website giving seat in 1st Class on Standard Class booking

The same thing happened to me on a TPE train from Manchester Airport to York about a year ago. I didn't realise that for my standard booking I had been allocated a first class seat, until I got on the train. The inspector noticed that I had a standard ticket but was in a first class coach. I...
