    GWR Plymouth Medical

It's located opposite to the main car park at the Depot. You will need to come off of the Devon Expressway and head towards the city centre taking the left hand lane for Mutley. Go straight over a mini roundabout then turn left at the second one into Mullet Road and go under the railway to the...

    Rail replacement aeroplane?

I was riding the Texas Eagle from LA to Chicago once when we hit a truck on an open crossing ( we were already running 12 hours late by then.. ) so Amtrak put me on a Southwest Airlines flight from Dallas Love Field to Chicago Midway - which impressed me, as it was during Thanksgiving week when...

    CrossCountry Qualified Train Driver

Maybe something else to consider.. back in 2007 (when Arriva took over from Virgin), the company wanted to know when their (590) Drivers wanted to finish work. A poll was conducted and only 31% could be bothered to vote on their own future with the result being finish at state pension age...

    CrossCountry Qualified Train Driver

Bristol were seven Drivers short a little while back with some long term sickness as well so the RDW was almost guaranteed but I think that it has dropped off for train work now as they are more or less back up to establishment but it's still widely used for training purposes and route...

Interrail first class on Swedish VY Norrtag sleepers

I've just arrived back into Stockholm from Abisko. The sleeping cars only started coming through from Boden last week. Due to the recent derailments they are not carrying passengers over the affected track so there's a bus forward to Narvik from Bjorkliden - but the stock is still going...

    XC refusing Delay repay

The XC service stops at the western end of platform 4 and SWT stops at the eastern end of platform 3 so even though it's a cross platform movement it can also involve a lengthy walk especially if there's luggage involved. Very often the signaller holds the XC service when it's on time for an...

Going back to the Stockholm Arlanda experience..I arrived into T2 at 16.55 this evening to find two booths open with the non EU line moving a little quicker. Question about a trip to the Arctic - time of year

There's usually some hightened Northern Lights activity around when the clocks change in the Spring and Autumn which is also worth considering.

Question about a trip to the Arctic - time of year

I go to Abisko in Swedish Lapland twice a year (October & March). Fly BA to Stockholm then 17 hours on an overnight train leaving either at 18.00 (direct) or 22.00 ( to Lulea) with a short change of trains in Boden. The trains are operated by Vy (Sweden) but can also be booked on the SJ website...

    Cross Country Penzance services

No cross depot cover..only Plymouth Drivers sign Penzance and only Bristol Drivers cover Paignton - although the Plymouth Train Managers do both routes. Bit of a false economy really. Apart from that, it's a mixture of Driver or Train Manager shortages.

    Ryanair on Rail

People get in trains with no intention of buying a ticket - try doing that on a plane.

    Stockholm Alranda Border Control

Arrived at 21.35 on 27/11 into T5 with Ryanair from Stansted (EI IHW brand new 738-200). Three positions open - two for 'all passports' and the very pleasant officer asked where I was going, how long I was staying and the purpose of my visit then I was through in less than ten minutes.
