    Longest line of sight (UK)

I've been looking into the magical 40 miles from the Shard. There's a viewpoint somewhere on Sheppey where someone's been able to snap the Shard from...

    AWC advances

I'm really puzzled by this too. I've been checking for a few weeks but still can't see any advance tickets for the next few Sundays. AWC's webchat agent assured me they're yet to be released, but even for this Sunday I can't see any.

    Gerry's 313 Farewell

Dunno.. it's easy for patience to wear thin when there are so many idiots about who ruin it for everyone else.

    Gerry's 313 Farewell

After many hours of processing by my home computer, my on-board highlights 360 video is finally ready. It's comprised of the legs between WGC and Hitchin East, and Moorgate and King's Cross via Ferme Park. It's also VR-safe for those of you with headsets.

    Great Northern 313 Withdrawals

I've posted a 360° video that I recorded yesterday from inside 313048, capturing the stretch between Harringay and Highbury & Islington in the daytime. On the approach to Finsbury Park, the driver makes an announcement about the last day of the 313s. Those with suitable headsets can also view...

Interesting! Did you also happen to try from within the tunnels? Did you have to register or be presented with an intermediate splash page?

(Partial) West Anglia route additional third track and new station at Meridian Water

The diggers are in and have cleared trees next to Jarrow Road. Initial works for the Stratford to Angel Road upgrade?

Stratford to Tottenham Hale line speed

Any reason why trains crawl up the Northbound track at about 15mph? The timetables state the journey to be about 13 minutes to Tottenham Hale. Going south, it's 14 minutes, but it appears to be much faster than 15mph, possibly as high as 40?

    Curious questions - Caledonian Sleeper

Thanks for the drawing. That's explained it well. Is it a bad idea to leave rakes abandoned, then? No brakes? I think The 39 Steps got it right when he says it's the Edinburgh train which reverses onto the Glasgow one, rather than the other way round. I didn't notice us going backwards! :)...

    Curious questions - Caledonian Sleeper

I travelled on the Caledonian Sleeper back down from Glasgow the other night. Just a few questions, as I'd never been on it before.. 1) The train stopped at Carstairs. According to Wikipedia, this is where it couples with an Edinburgh-originated train. I expected this to be at the front of...

Annual Gold Card - 34% off South East rail tickets

Thanks very much. It's a "usual story" is it? Do give more examples of this! It's dead annoying from my PoV as there's so much time wasted arguing and researching!

Annual Gold Card - 34% off South East rail tickets

I've been able to purchase off-peak tickets with the Gold Card discount for same day travel. If ever I try to apply this railcard for Advance tickets on eastcoast.co.uk, (for example), no money is knocked off. Nowhere in http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/season_tickets/goldcard.html...

    Cambridge "via Stevenage"?!

Firstly, thanks to Galvanize for answering my question about Foxton in another thread. On a similar subject, whenever I'm on a train from King's Cross to Cambridge, I've noticed the in-train announcements saying something along the lines of "This is the xx:xx FCC service to Cambridge, via...

Destination board at King's Cross - Foxton?!

Just a question out of curiosity.. Why do the destination boards at King's Cross state "Foxton" for all trains going to Cambridge? The trains themselves show Cambridge. Is there a logical reason, or is it more of a fluff-up somewhere?
