    Bullying surrounding trainspotting

Turns out I am autistic as well, albeit with the mildest possible diagnosis. In infant school (year 1-2) what really ticked me off was how one bully of a kid played with the wooden train set, pushing it along while loudly yelling 'choo-choo Thomas!' over and over at me. Even though I often...

    Bullying surrounding trainspotting

I've been looking for a thread like this for a few months, glad to see someone took the initiative to take on this topic. It seems it is a common rite-of-passage for anybody seriously interested in trains. I've observed that my own experiences are quite different from others, though. I spent...

This is a ride I recorded last year on the Severn Valley Railway. The train is composed of six Collett GWR coaches (built between 1932 and 1938) with a GWR Nondescript Saloon and BR Mk1 coach. We ride in the Saloon, which dates from 1912. The locomotive is a British Railways Class 52 - D1015...

    Fiction Writing

Back in the late-2000s I went through quite a lot. Already having undergone a traumatic inter-continental move at the end of primary school, I then lost a friend who meant more to me than anyone else ever had. To try and cope with all of this, I decided to start writing my own escape from...

VIA Rail Canadian - Toronto to Vancouver

It's disappointing you won't get to do the full trip, but similarly I didn't get to either. Last year I took a cross-country trip to Ontario from Edmonton, and did it thus. Rider Express bus from Edmonton to Saskatoon. VIA train #2 from Saskatoon to Winnipeg (7am to 9:30pm). Ontario Northland...

Are there any good scenic views on the underground when it is above ground?

Chiswick Park has some good views towards the city with both 'tube' and 'sub-surface' stock on the route (Piccadilly and District).

    Autism

It's been a while since I last posted here. By chance I logged on and found this thread. I'm autistic, albeit with the mildest possible diagnosis (PDD-NOS). I've started writing down a lot of the feelings I endured as a kid with my novel project about a young train enthusiast with similar...

End of the Hamburg - Copenhagen Train Ferry

I had heard about this too and it has been on my bucket list for quite some time. Finally this summer I took the train from Hamburg as far as Rödby, the DSB IC3 train boarding the Prinsesse Benedickte at Puttgarden. Then recorded the ride back to Hamburg that afternoon, with the...

Posted this last week - quite a bit of information on German Electric Locomotives, DMU/EMUs and ICEs, as well as some foreign visitors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbz8_WJEd-o (It seriously took hours of searching to get all the info for this video. I had planned to put in...

    380 in Britain NOW!

What I've never been able to understand, is how on earth the gangway at the front/rear is going to be used - especially in rainy weather! All of the other trains I've seen with a gangway have all been straight - even if the cab isn't.

    Derailment at Sudbury

    GNER / GNWR website online

Last year, I spent some time at both Stevenage and Watford Junction, and I can safely say that at Stevenage, there was at least a 15 minute gap in-between intercity trains there. At Watford, maybe 10-12 minutes. As has already been stated, all I can see that could possibly cause a train-jam is...

East Coast new livery Mk4 set at Doncaster

When I had heard that East Coast had taken over from NXEC, I envisioned a return to the midnight-blue scheme, with an indigo stripe and perhaps a white or blue "ECML" in place of the golden "GNER" initials.
