Do I Have A Seat Reservation Stalker?

I would suspect the reservation system is programmed to use up single unoccupied seats for single travellers - it wouldn't want to issue two single seat reservations each to one of a pair of seats and then have to split up two people travelling together.

    Caught altered ticket Standsted Express

Small spelling error. "Offenses" is US English. The UK spelling is "Offences". Good luck!

Facing prosecution for slip of the tongue

I've read all through this thread, and while there seems to be a lot of going over the same ground, one thing I don't think has really been pursued is the comment (my italics) in the original post of "I often mince my words". We've been through how Amersham might have popped into the OP's mind...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Well, I finally got to travel on a refurb. Only a short trip, Stirling to Glasgow on Friday (I think it was a service ex Aberdeen), and only in standard class. But still very nice. Looking forward to seeing these (reliably and predictably) in service on the Highland Main Line.

    Highland Chieftain 1S16 now 1W96

Thanks to everyone for this discussion. As a regular user of (what is now) 1W96 I'm all too well aware of the havoc (and snowballing delays) which late running to Edinburgh can cause further north, so anything which helps to improve that gets my vote. This (rather than the Waverley docking...

    Highland Chieftain 1S16 now 1W96

Makes sense: "W = think at Waverley!". But then why not the Glasgow services too?

    Highland Chieftain 1S16 now 1W96

An interesting thought, but in terms of the service patterns, 1S16 used to fit in not only with the other departures from KGX, but also with the preceding and following services on the Highland Main Line, which are 1H15 and 1H17.

    Highland Chieftain 1S16 now 1W96

Thanks for the replies so far - still be interesting to know about the "96" (no, no conflict with Wemyss Bay services on the HML!) and why the through services to Glasgow aren't included. One thought is that the southbound sleeper is knocking around Inverness as 5M16 and 1M16 at about the same...

    Highland Chieftain 1S16 now 1W96

Can anyone enlighten me as to why the LNER Highland Chieftain (1200 Kings Cross to Inverness) which was formerly 1S16 is now running as 1W96? Abedeen and Stirling trains also now seem to have W codes but have kept their former sequence numbers. Is it simply a change to alert control staff to...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Is there an option to NOT release the 170s to Northern? Presumably they are going there to replace something else ... and so on.

    West Midlands Railway

The Royal Mail are pretty good at delivering letters, even if you've accidentally given an incomplete address. So long as it wasn't a deliberately false address (and I can tell from your other posts that you wouldn't have done that) then you should be fine. While you are waiting for the...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Could they turn anything as long as an HST at Inverness? I thought it was only p5 that had access from both sides of the triangle, and not very much space between the points and the buffers? However, the above discussion suggested that a problem is likely to occur only as a result of...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

This is certainly a help, but I also welcome your earlier comment that the matter is "on the radar". I'm thinking particularly of my own situation (local station Carrbridge, where dwell times can be less than a minute, and looking to board with a suitcase into first class). One can stand in...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

One of the (many) problems with the 170 sets is that you never know which way around they are going to be. So if looking for a reserved seat in coach A, for example, is it going to be at the front or the back of the train? Not a trivial issue when boarding at a lightly used station (where...

Front & Back of Reversing Trains ???

Not to do with splits, but it is fun to see the consternation on the faces of the passengers on an East Coast train reversing at Newcastle to get itself into the correct formation (or occasionally to get a working HST power car at the front), when it sets off in the oppostie direction from its...

Thank you! (Sorry, I missed the earlier post.) Good news about the staff transfer.

LNER remove 'small number of services' from timetables

While I'm sorry to see any diminution of the LNER service north of Edinburgh, I always thought the extension of one service to Stirling was an odd one, with Stirling being so close to Edinburgh and relatively well-served by local services. Much more useful, perhaps, would have been an extension...

ScotRail HST Introduction - Updates & Discussion

Good to see these sets starting to arrive. From what's been written, I'm assuming that these sets are being serviced at Haymarket. Two questions! One - will this be the home depot for the whole fleet, with other depots (such as Inverness) limited to refuelling duties? And second, why...

Hull Trains £59 CDR if you miss the last train

This surely would fall within the provision of "any TOC in a position to do so must help the passenger to complete his journey".

Two trips in one day, what if delay causes missed second trip?

In any discussion on Delay Repay, it's worth remembering how fortunate we are as rail passengers to have such a scheme. Travel with a budget airline from Edinburgh to London (say) and if you're an hour late you'll get nothing. And if as a result you miss your planned connecting flight to Paris...
