    Flange lubricators

Apologies, I didn't make myself clear. That's correct, I'm just looking for information as to the height of the plunger, relative to the railhead. The flanges operate grease pumps that pump grease out of a reservoir onto the flanges of rail vehicles passing over them. It's as simple as that!

    Flange lubricators

Hello all, I'm currently looking for information regarding the height above the railhead that the plunger for a flange lubricator can protrude, but can't find anything on the RSSB's online archive. Many thanks in advance, Matt

Network Rail appoints new boss Mark Carne

Hmm, a slightly different position. Perhaps better to use the example of the head of BP/Shell knowing that? Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2

Railway worker suspended after rescuing disabled woman

Railway worker suspended after rescuing disabled woman

Just been saying on Facebook about how he should have rung the signalman before going on the side of the track and basically faced an absolute sh*t-storm from people who have it in for Health and Safety. Most noticeably, supposed railway enthusiasts.

    Train driver experience days

The KWVR offers full day steam driving experiences for groups of four people. Everyone gets to drive one round trip, fire another, and act as guard on a third. The fourth round trip allows you to get your breath back and enjoy the scenery, chat to the guide, discuss the workings of steam...

    Mistaken for Staff?

I was volunteering at rail fest on a stall and we were told to have our lanyards visible at all times while within the show. During my break, I went to look in the cabs of various locomotives and, even when stood quietly at the back of the group, I kept getting asked questions on the locos...

    Favourite Novels (and non-fiction)

I think my favourite book of all time is 'Animal Farm': as a self confessed leftie, it reminds me of what happens when the left goes to far. Other than that, I've got the complete works of Sherlock Holmes on my tablet, and have read that about three times. Most of the non-fiction stuff I read is...

FGW delay: "Never apologise, never explain"

Without wanting to be cynical, perhaps the journalist has somewhat inflated the scale of this problem to justify being paid to write said article? Yes, the railway might have got it a little wrong, but you can't write an article every time your train is delayed...

Derailment on the Great Central Railway

I heard that a loco was attached at the back in some way? Is that incorrect? A lot of rumours were flying around in the days afterwards. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Derailment on the Great Central Railway

My understanding was that it could be moved as a vacuum braked train without pulling the strings assuming that the vacuum was the same amount? No need to pull the strings unless something that couldn't create as much vacuum was to move the stock (eg, a br standard at 21" taking stock previously...

Derailment on the Great Central Railway

Were they moved by an air braked loco then or taken without a brake? Or something else entirely? Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2

Derailment on the Great Central Railway

It should also be pointed out, foot the avoidance of doubt, that it is worked by the automatic vacuum brake, where a leak in the pipe would cause the brakes to leak on rather than off. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

However, it should be noted that those rulebooks have many of the same rules as the mainline- add they've changed their operating practices over the years, so have heritage lines, to keep up with best practice. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
