Final XC HST (1627 Plymouth - Leeds) 18/09

LNER did it, first class no less, for "Lets Go Round Again".

Final XC HST (1627 Plymouth - Leeds) 18/09

Ex PLY, 1st was about 60% full, most being enthusiasts. A handful joined at EXD. We bailed at TVP and I'd be interested to hear whether it becomes busier than usual further north

    CrossCountry double booked seats

That's encouraging. I seem to recall reading of cases where someone with a reserved seat A to D finds someone else gets on at B with a ticket for the same seat, to C. I seem to recall ongoing debate about it. There might be more people than usual that day, being the last day of HST service, but...

    CrossCountry double booked seats

Having read that XC does this, what is my best argument next Monday if I find my reserved 1st class seats Tiverton - Plymouth - Tiverton are occupied by someone else with a "valid" claim?

HST vehicles at Yarmouth Docks for export to Mexico

Assuming the whole network is standard gauge, there is already a rail link from the destination port to at least one station on the Tren Maya network. The ship docks down the coast from the new Tren Maya line. 1694087091 The gulf crossing from the US to the southern end of the Yucatan...

HST vehicles at Yarmouth Docks for export to Mexico

"Only in AIS range. Once it's circa 100miles offshore, it won't be trackable. So you'll have it until its west of Ireland and then as it navigates the Gulf" This site does the job:- https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/shipid:6280144/zoom:10

which seat is best in the house on XC HSTs?

East side for the views of the estuaries/sea in Devon. Table seat, assuming it is window-aligned, gives a better panoramic view. I like to be towards the rear of the carriage, so as not to have a bulkhead breaking up the view.

    HST screen washer tubes

In my limited observational experience the tubes often seem to be about four times as long as they need to be, and flap about in the slipstream. I look forward to learning the reason for the excess! Many Thanks - Morpethcurve

    CrossCountry HST Diagrams

I'm hoping to get an HST LDS to DHM on Oct 4th. Published diagrams imply 1S51 and 1S53. The latter, acc. to RTT:- "Starts as High Speed Train, changes en route..." Could someone kindly explain that to me please? Does it actually swap trains? RTT also gives 1S49 and 1S55 as HSTs. Can that be...

    1970s Morpeth mail train?

Good Day All. In 1970/71, aged 10, I'd go down to Morpeth station of an evening, where a loco and two or three vans sat in the bay platform until leaving for Newcastle around 8 pm. One night the driver took us through the engine room! Does anyone know where else the train stopped (I never saw...

    Which line gradients book?

I see there are a few out there which seem to deal with steam era gradients. Is there a respected tome covering current infrastructure (which I acknowledge will be in many cases the same)?

Buying house near track - Crofton Park station

In 1970 when I was 10, we moved to a house overlooking the midpoint of the Morpeth curve (On Low Stobhill). For a week or so we were without carpets and found that we could draw pencil lines around furniture legs to see how much they moved overnight. Even before the carpets went down the whole...
