    Chesterfield location

Hi all, I'm thinking about heading up to the footbridge just north of Chesterfield station tomorrow over lunchtime. As I've never been there before can anyone recommend somewhere to park please and what I'd be likely to see. In other words is it worth the hour plus drive! Cheers, in...

    Harringworth Viaduct

Just a quick question: is this officially closed, a freight only line or very limited passenger service please?

    Bolton to Manchester Victoria

Yes it's a long process but if the plants are sterile then heaven help us should we ever get a male plant as it seems to be spreading like wildfire in our towns and cities as it is!

    Bolton to Manchester Victoria

Some serious investment taking place along this route. However, it also has a serious problem with Japanese Knotweed! In places it encourages way over the trackbed and in between the rails. I'm sure that this is potentially a very serious problem as the root systems are notoriously hard to kill...

    A couple of observations...

Earlier today I attempted to purchase a Freedom of the Northwest rover ticket at Leeds station. The woman on duty clearly had no idea what I was asking for. This isn't uncommon. Every year around the summer I take the inside of a week and buy a Rover Ticket and whoever and wherever I...

Dalston on the Cumbrian Coast whilst ion holiday...

Thanks and me too! I think it was my 3rd or 4th attempt to get a shot of it as I didn't know from the timetable which were the loco hauled trains as opposed to the usual dmus. I eventually worked it out by hearing it heading towards Carlisle and got the return journey on a day when were...

    Horrible liveries

This thread has the theme if generally disliking most train liveries! My favourite livery was large logo. Looked brilliant on the 50s, 86s and 37s and to a slightly lesser degree the 47s. I'm not sure how that would translate into a multiple unit livery though with huge carriage numbers and the...

    Huntingdon

Probably my fault in all fairness. But back to my original point; I'd never been to huntingdon before so it was a gamble! The bloke monitoring the barriers looked tough but I said who I was, that I was a rail enthusiast and please would it be possible to access the platforms to photograph some...

    Huntingdon

What an excellent location for photography! On a curve with excellent viewing with long span electrification so no OLE getting in the way. Also a relatively good variety of traction from 91s/MK4s, EMUs, DMUs and freight.

    Small depot usage

Clacton looked dead and locked up for good about 6 years ago on my only ever visit to Clacton.

92023 in new livery at Rugby

just dumped in the south bay with 92032. There's regulary a 92 there having done a turn to DIRFT but 023 is a real bonus! 70008 makes a sneaky appearance in one of the shots.

BBC report on slab thrown from bridge into drivers cab

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-31971309 Fortunately the driver is OK. Presumably this was a 507 or 508 unit.

The Green party's rail policy & stance on Hs2 is a dishonest, dogmatic mess..

Spot on. It's easy to criticise and even those in favour of hs2, such as myself, still baulk at the costs. However the Greens don't appear to offer an alternative which is very disappointing. I have regularly voted green over the last decade or so I find this particularly frustrating as...

    68013 at Rugby

Through Rugby about half an hour ago on an empty flats in Chiltern colours but no specific detailed vinyls. Presumably on a test run? I took several shots of it but no idea how to post them on to here.
